  1. We should be down in the quiet camping again. Taking Grumpy's Mk3 Militant down on the monday. Come and say hello should be probably 3 Militants lurking down there.
  2. I recal a similar system fitted to a S2/3 Landrover. The huge burner was mounted on the rear and prevented the door from opening but otherwise worked well.
  3. I like the the Prototype 101 with a hard body. Never seen that one before. I guess it's the proto for the radiobody? Anyone know any more or where it went?
  4. Its still on their web site when i looked the other week.
  5. The rear axle also steers but its still a hand full on tight roads. Must put the wind up the locals to look out at rolling past your house.
  6. Yes its the same one. Rob has done a great job. A coat of paint and the rockets were added just before the show make it look brilliant.
  7. Some pictures from Wolverhampton West Park show. Good turn out on the Saturday but a bit of a shame more did'nt venture out for the Sunday. 438 Swingfire. Zil 131 Last one is of us being towed back in by the Scammel after the Saracen got a bit grumpy.
  8. Wolverhampton West Park show last weekend and we helped John Pearson take his Valentine DD tank to the show so he could take it a drive through the city center! :-D Snapper asked for some pictures. Grumpy got off to a great start offroading the Militant, see the pic's in the Heavy's section. Valentine to the rescue and pulled him free. Valentine basking in the evening sun. Lined up ready to be winched on. Up she goes. Snug fit. Ready to unload. Job done. We all had a great weekend and the road run was fun. Jon.
  9. Yep. I think i would have put him in the hole he left if he had bent the cab after all the work we put into in over the last few weeks.
  10. Having removed the gearbox on Grumpy's Stolly, I would suggest a big ball of string for tying spanners to wrists and the workshop guide. It lists step by step jobs for man A and man B and the tools needed. Worth its weight in gold.
  11. Currently working on my S1 landrover started on it last month. That was last on the road in 1991 and has mostly been dry stored or covered with sheets. I had to rebuild the fuel pump and the starter motor had seized but was rebuilt. Cleaned the points new plugs and leads and fresh fuel and she is running sweet, touch wood! All depends on how its ben stored.
  12. Last year Grumpys Militant was given a 3 day speedy make over to try to rid it of yellow paint :shake: and give it a healthy green glow. As it was such a rush we are now going to go back over the work done last year and fix alot of the problems that were ignored/painted over/gaffer taped then painted over. Biggest issue is rot in the cab floor and rot and dents in the wings. Wings were removed first by Grumpy and Simon. Looks a bit odd and it tried to hide behind Si's Militant project. :-D The rot has been caused by a double skinned section at the back of the wing where the mudflap is attached. First wing cut out ready for welding. Grumpy mid weld. We rolled the steel over a scaffold tube to get a curve into it before welding. One done, Grumpy started on the other wing and i started on the prep for painting. Took a whole morning just to strip it back. Needle gunned the under side and sanded the top. Some filler to finish off and its ready for paint. The other wing needs some serious hammer abuse, the rolled edge has been squashed flat. Last night we got the front of the truck up on axle stands and got the front wheels off so we can get at the underside of the cab floor. They are stupidly heavy wheels. Will attack it again this weekend as its due to be at Cosford airshow on the 1st.
  13. I posted this one before the big crash. 2 Mk3's and a Mk1 having a big drink on the way to W&P last year.
  14. Grumpys Mk3 with a 10ton recovery dolly suspend towing Simons Mk3 back from south wales to the midlands for restoration.
  15. The handbrake on Stalwarts is a similar type of ratchet handbrake.
  16. Something a bit different. These were posted on Landrover Forum. I have copied the description posted with them. The Matador. Twin drive motors and motor driven chassis winch with folding crane jib. It can lift 1.7 kg on the crane and 2kg with the ground anchor down. has front suspension only though but can still climb walls until it falls over. It is a copy of the one I used to have on my front drive. the winch can be used ove the jib, out the fairlead rollers at the back or fed round to the front and out under the side of the cab. A (almost) exact copy of the Lancashire United Matador used for bus recovery at the Manchester Transport museum. Undriven but has a hand powered chassis winch and a fully working, twin winch Harvey Frost 8 ton crane, suspension and steering. This one was featured with the real thing at an event there a few years ago. :-D
  17. It's the thread listings that are 'backwards' now. Yep i am having the same problem. The main forum page shows new posts. But it is showing the old post firsts. I can change the order to newest first using the options box at the bottom of the page but it seems to forget the setting and rolls back to old posts first?
  18. Cheers Fred. Another odd query answered. :-D Jon.
  19. 1. My old faithful L/R 109. 2. Mk1 Stalwart. 3. 101 Radiobody. 4. Chieftain MBT. 5. Chieftain ARRV. 6. Foden 6x6 Recovery. 7. CVRT Samson. 8 Centurion MBT. 9. FV434. 10. Foden 8x8 drops. I have a thing for winches and cranes. :-D
  20. Really stupid question time. What is the D10 cable drum's purpose other than holding a reel of cable obviously? :-D :dunno:
  21. We have lifted Simons 1 ton Signal box using the eyes at the bottom. We normally run a strap from corner to corner crossing on the top. We have just used one strap as pictured when we were short of slings. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/DSC00024.jpg[/img] Jon.
  22. Nige, Yep they are the ones. They had moved sites to one in Kingsbury.
  23. The police took them away, quite funny as we were trying to load a flat tired unregistered Stolly with no lights on public road. oops. :police:
