  1. They both had padlocks on the hatches but they had been smashed off to get in. We left the one guy there to clean up mud on the road while we dropped off the 432 and he caught two young lads messing with Stolly in the field which was only 200 yards away.
  2. Not aware of any yellow metal bits in a series box. Jon
  3. While most of the people spent newyears day recovering from hangovers the Militant Men set out for a bit of recovery work. A friend of ours has had a bit of bad luck and the Stalwart and 432 he owns had both been attacked by vandals and needed them moving to a secure location for repairs. Simon managed to get the Bedford TM stuck just driving onto the site towing Grumpys trailer but it shows just how wet and muddy it was and how heavy the trailer is. Once he was pulled out to firmer ground we set about getting the Stolly and 432 to a point for loading. We had a sorry looking flatfooted Stolly... http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0001.jpg[/img] and a toasted 432... http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0002.jpg[/img] The Stolly is drivable and as the tyres are scrap anyway it was decided to drive it as it was . It was fine on the muddy field in straight lines but horrible once it was steered as the rubber moved under the rims and it became a bit unpredicable as to where it was heading next. :schocked: While messing about with the Stolly he managed to get the fire damaged 432 running and drove that to the other field for loading. The interior has been gutted and you can see heat damage on the outside but it still ran and drove like normal. As the ground was so soft we had to load on the road and while the 432 still ran we got that on first. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0006.jpg[/img] http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0008.jpg[/img] http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0005.jpg[/img] http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/2008_0102432Recovery0009.jpg[/img] With the Militants crane for a gentle tug she drove on the trailer fine. It was getting dark once we got back again for the Stolly and due to the flat tyres it was a nightmare to line up and keep it straight onto the trailer. In the end we had to leave it overnight as it was unsafe to carry on. Grumpy and Simon went back today with a spare set of wheels and it loaded fine. Simon has more pictures to add later and i have put a short clip of the 432 driving on HMVF Tv. Jon.
  4. All series landrovers use ep90 for main gearbox and transfer box. Classic range rovers with 4 speed manual boxes use engine oil and 90/110/defenders use ATF in the main box and ep90 in the transfer box. They all use ep90 in the diffs aswell.
  5. Just got home after a long day playing. :-D The owner managed to get it running so the loading/moving was easy in the end. The Stolly is another story though. Just sorting pics so will probably post more tomorow. Jon.
  6. Cheers Richard, We look set to be moving a dead Stolly which we are used to but it currently has 6 flat tires to make things interesting and a fire damaged 432 so Hollebones will be used where we can but its good to know that we can have some steering assistance if needs be. Hope to get some good pictures.
  7. Looks like the Militant Men are going to start 2008 with a bang. Anyway can a none running mk2 432 still be steered or assist steering by using the standard control levers or is it a case of dragging it with hollybones? Cheers Jon.
  8. It will do 50 if i lose the trailer! :shake:
  9. Its currently sitting out side the doors waiting for better weather. The engine and gearbox have been put to one side. The box just needs a good clean and fresh fluids. The engine is going to be given a once over with the sump off and change the head gasket. We are probably going to make up a support frame to work on it. Other jobs have got in the way so its dormant till the new year. Once the running gear is sorted the better weather will be with us and lighter nights so we can clean the hull and paint it, ready for all going back together. We also need to fix the crane on the Militant before we can do any more heavy lifting. Jon.
  10. I would be interested too, i want to repaint my wide track sankey in the spring and that has max speed 40 mph on the body and want to get that looking right. Ta Jon
  11. The Jag car engine can be made to work. Pete was running one in his Samson at W&P this year. Some ancilleries are different and breathers but theses can be swapped off the dead lump. The other thing is timing and advance is different but if i remember correctly this can be sorted removing metal from the dizzy body to allow it to be turned more. Jon.
  12. Yay Mogstock is back. Dunno what we will bring as we are now mogless. :?
  13. Whooo First time i got one right. :-D I have seen a couple that have had the folding end boards changed to solid ends. They seem to end up on the continent being LHD. I have a civilian 2a carawagon as a on going project but it keeps getting put on hold as the bigger green stuff eats up more time.
  14. Landrover Carawagon roof that has been fixed permanently in the up position?
  15. Cheers for the info and picture Clive. Once again cant fault the service. :-D. Would also love something similar in size. Jon.
  16. Anyone got any idea what this is and what it was used for? My boss has bought it for his son to play with. There is a plate on the side of the controls that says its Helicopter portable but the rest is covered in paint. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/DSC00055-1.jpg[/img] http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/DSC00056-1.jpg[/img] http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Poptopshed/DSC00057-1.jpg[/img] Cheers
  17. Bv206's can be had with a range of rear bodies, tippers, tankers... all sorts. You cant just use the cab section as it relies on rams between the two sections for steering.
  18. Looks like its going well. Nothing like the cold dark nights to sap the will to play with the trucks. :-( Its hard enough being bothered to work on the landrovers let alone the big stuff. I need a heated tool box. :-D
  19. We used a couple of different blasters to do a l/r 110 chassis and found they were ok for small areas and tricky corners but tedious and slow for doing the main rails. Now prefer the wire pig tail brushes on a grinder for big areas and the blaster for the nooks where the brush wont fit.
  20. Would love to see the pic's of the build. Very impressive!
  21. Latest tender list is now out. http://www.witham-sv.com/tender/lots.php Piggy bank is looking worried! :-D
  22. Could well be a lwb speedo he used as the swb one is for use with 600 and 650x16 tyres and the lwb one is for use with 750x16 tyres. A 101 uses a swb speedo to keep the gearing matched to the drive gear in the transfer box.
  23. The speedo's are the same for l/h or r/h drive. You need a RTC5034 which is the same as a s3 swb speedo head. Jon.
  24. Any one got a clue what hes trying to pull? :dunno: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hyEm0qgXUg8
  25. Any one else looked at the price of Dukw in the heavy section? Yes its very very nice but you can get a house for that!
