  1. Mike. The body shouldnt drop any as its supported along the front by brackets further forward on the outriggers and as its a hard top its braced by the screen through the roof. I would just measure it either side before starting to cut if you are worried about it moving.
  2. The nice thing with 110 chassis is that it dip's down from the tub floor so with the tank removed you have plenty of room. On the soft top series L/R's with flat chassis we used to remove the the row of bolts holding the tub to the seatbox open the doors and jack the tub up slightly to make room for the welder.
  3. You have covered pretty much everything you need to do. I normally fix a stiff length of wire to the loom and stuff it well up the chassis leg ready to fish it back out afterwards. Have the waxoil ready for once the welding has cooled. Jon.
  4. This is John Pearsons FV438 at Wolverhampton this year. One Swingfire round on top of its case and another mostly in the launch tube.
  5. Looks like a good project. Keep us updated on progress.
  6. Made a good start. I think i lost stone in weight from sweat after sitting in the 6 wheel cooker while loading on the sunday. :-D See you soon.
  7. You need to Simon Stollys TM Palace. Hot and cold running everything with carpet. This year he fitted a shower tray in the back and warmed water on the stove. His cheap ebay shower packed up after the first use but a caravan pump worked well as a second choice. I just use a solar shower. quick and cheap oh and a unimog to hang it off.
  8. At War & Peace this year was a great looking Stolly camped just down from us in quiet camping. It was bought over by some guys from Ireland. Looked very good on the larger tyres. First time we heard it start and rummble past we knew it was a bit different. Later in the week we got a chance to get talking to the guy who had worked on it. I think his name was Trevor, sorry if its not. I am rubbish at remembering names. It is now running a Cummins V8 Diesel, Sounds great works well and fits in the hull nicely. The other interesting thing is that he fitted clutches to the drive shafts so most of the time he runs on the center wheels and can engage drive to the front and rear at the flick of a switch in the cab. Avoids any problems with windup and they even went on holiday in it! He has machined a bronze collar that fits on the shafts with a plain end to support the shaft when not engaged. Jon.
  9. A couple that spring to mind are, A straight bar is for emergency towing only. Not to be used for pushing or recovery of unbraked loads. As Grasshopper says Hollybone A-frame'a are worth their weight in gold. Always use a clear system of signals/commands and only have one person in charge. Last sunday we loaded a dead Saladin backwards onto a lowloader. I was steering and vision was very limited. In that sort of situation i am very wary of commands because you find the person directing tends to be looking forward and a left hand turn is actually a right hand turn. :shake:
  10. I did try but couldnt get a good photo as there were a couple of guys changing light bulbs in a cherry picker. You can see then in the back ground of one of the pic's. :rofl:Also seemed a shame the fv434 is almost completely hidden under cam net.
  11. The little Jungle bug that cropped up in another post. aww cute. Well worth a vist.
  12. It was good to see the 101 in the flesh having only seen it it pictures before. By far the most impressive thing is the Challenger ARRV. It dwarfs the Sherman BARV.
  13. While down in Kent for War and Peace the Midlands REME reinactors decided it would be good plan to visit the REME museum at Arborfield. We had a great day, some very good displays on the role and history of the REME. Some great models too.
  14. I guess that idea evolved into the 10/30ton towing dolly?
  15. The forum seems to running ok but its very slow to load from the main page??
  16. Nice Photos. Never considered the none standard exhaust fitted to Zoe's Militant when we set out for the arena and i jumped on the crane seat. Bit of exhaust smoke to mix with the dust. :-D
  17. I had the pleasure of being given a trip in the all white Snowtrac. Suprised by how swift they move. Great fun. :-D
  18. Solar shower for me. Even i have to fill it from the kettle.
  19. Access to the couplings for the shafts to bevel boxes is next to impossible and still very awkward with things like fuel tank removed. Well whats not on Stolly? Its not practical to connect and disconect them with out modifications. I know it has been done using dog clutches on the shafts and can work well but as said above i would leave it as standard for the amount of miles its likely to do. If your after a project our Mk1 is coming up for sale as we are running out of room and to many other things need work before starting on the stolly. :-(
