  1. The only current tyre we have available is slightly smaller than the original 900x16. Its a 255/85r16 Bf Mud. Looks a bit too small on a GS but will work well offroad. :-D I am currently annoying our buyer as there is a company in Holland that can supply remoulds in the same pattern as the curent army Michelins but as yet he wont listen.
  2. Well said Neil and Andy. As long as what we do is sensible, doing our best to stay with in the law as you personally interprete it and above all safe we should carry on rather than argue about the technicalities. It seems that even those who enforce them cannot understand the mine field.
  3. Just had a 101 come into work for tires. Been converted to auto and had power steering. Drove lovely. :-D
  4. Who says 101 have rubbish brakes? These are of Australian 101's under going brake tests and a shot of them being transported.
  5. We have used wd40 on the Militant and it works wonders on tired paint. Does tend to go streaky after its been rained on a few times. As for washing thats what rain is for! :-D
  6. Hi Duncan. From memory those tanks 1 and 2 are engine oil and hydraulic oil. No 4. is attached to those cables and is the securing plate for the fuel tank. Niel has answered a couple and the others i cant remember right now.
  7. Do you know where the last owner had it from? I remember their used to be a couple of Hongkong police Saracens Parked at the back of a yard on the edge of Lichfield. Always wondered where they went.
  8. The Bins fitted in the Reme tech wagons, were they the standard Thompson Chests? Like these We have a bunch of these out of our Brockhouse stores trailer. I need to sort the security as its got no external locks. I will probably change the drivers door lock to a later antiburst type. I will have a look at the frost terminal as i dont want to start drilling holes all over and should be a hidden security option. Al. It came through work and it teased me for about 20 mins before i dared make an offer!
  9. Why does it always stop raining just after you have finished loading? :-D
  10. Nice looking truck. Thanks for posting. Maybe start a 101 Gallery?
  11. Does anyone have any good sources for finding out information on the service history of individuals? I only knew my Maternal Grandfather when i was a small child. He never said much about his times to my mother and i would like to find out more.
  12. My new toy. Brought it home last night in a down pour which was fun. :-D Good job i fitted new wiper blades before i set out. Does any one have any info of 101's in use by the REME? I have pictures of the crane one in the Museum and one with an under lift fitted. I have read about Raiper repair units in this months Windscreen (well timed!) any one got pictures on these or ones in other uses by the Reme? It needs a new hood see the wanted bit if you know of any and does any one have any pdf copies of the manuals that were on line? The site still exists but none of the links work. :??? Cheers Jon.
  13. We are slowly replacing the crane hoses on Grumpys Militant. Had a couple go now. Luckily the ends are the re-useable type so we have purchased a length of hose and can fix any problem hose very quickly.
  14. Is that picture with the 432 the one you moved for John P? If so its moving again tomorrow. :-D
  15. Thanks Chris. It looked like some sort of spreader plate had been fitted between those bolts so it could well be the top plate of some sort of arm. I will try to get down to Withams in September.
  16. One of my War and Peace purchases was a spare wheel mount for the front of the wide track sankeys. Finally got around to fitting it last weekend. Any one got a trailer with one of these fitted or pictures of one fitted without the wheel? I know alot of trailers have come out of Withams recently with these fitted. What i want to know is if there was some sort bump stop fitted lower down on the face of the tub against the tire? I only got the main bracket and there seems alot of flex with the weight of the wheel mounted. Cheers. Jon.
  17. Its also worth having a read of the REME Recovery manual. Host by Militant Graham. Aslo has other interesting downloads.: http://www.aecmilitant.co.uk/downloads/recoverymanual.pdf Jon.
  18. We have been to pick up a chinese meal in Grumpys Militant. :-D
  19. I had a quick Google before posting and the question had been asked regarding London and some said Charing Cross and other said it was Marble Arch?
  20. Not a Military question but a stupid one which someone clever may be able to answer. :-D On our trip back from Scotland we wondered, when they display distance signs at the side of the road where are they measured too? Signs give a place such as Birmingham then a mileage to it but where in Birmingham is measured to? We wondered if it was the center or the border of the county or some thing else? Any ideas?
  21. Got to make room for a certain 432. You around next weekend we should be doing our parcel farce routine to pick it up for him and the packs. :-D
  22. Yep we stopped at Warrington services, so it stands a good chance it was us on the Saturday. Great to meet Madrat and the Baron. :-D Top Blokes. Wonderful part of the world. I want your play ground. Best bit is the Stolly is in safe hands and got dry storage for the first time in years. Stolly enjoying the view of its new home. We made it back fine, the tailgate never moved! Jon.
