  1. Just a quick word of warning. Traffic from the South using the A64 / A169 junction should be aware of a set of roadworks just off the A64 junction. Building a new roundabout to access Eden Camp area. Traffic lights in operation causing queuing traffic back onto the roundabout. For those heading away back towards York late afternoon queues on a Sunday can be about a mile long. Worth considering diverting via Kirkby Misperton, Amotherby, Slingsby, Sherrif Hutton and York Ringroad. Takes about 10 - 15 minutes longer than a normal day on the A64.
  2. On our Railway Tamper an Accumulator is fitted. When we bought the tamper it had been in place for about 20 years. The Insurance man said it would be best if we could fit a new one, this we did brand new from a supplier near Leeds. That was 3 years ago, a fortnight ago when wrapping up the tamper after a shift, the hydraulics seemed slow, on checking we found the Accumulator was empty. Contacted the supplier and after checking it was found that the rubber bag in the cylinder had split. This was a factory supplied item with no involvement from us.
  3. Thanks for the replies. Still looking for that thing out there that fits my pocket and space available. Thought I had it nailed last week but just that bit too big.
  4. If a Q reg vehicle is offered for sale. It has a V5c Is registered as an Agricultural vehicle. What would that mean to me? Assume I know nothing and that would not be far from reality.
  5. I used to use them in the RE's No way you could conceal them when working at full revs with an enormous flame out the exhaust. I was very popular with the infantry units as it save them digging trenches and it gave them something to warm their hands on at midnight on Salisbury plain in mid February. Need deep pockets to keep the Petrol tank filled though 15 gallons an hour at working revs. I didn't think it made too much of a mess, if you keep the conveyor speed down the spoil gets dumped on the edge of the trench. However if someone messed you about placing their trench and wasn't very helpful the conveyor got turned up to full speed and spread the spoil everywhere. Fill that trench back in now if you can.
  6. Ventilator to fit in a wall? Like an air brick but bigger.
  7. Any ideas as to what this is, Where and what is unusual about it? I am told it is a bit of a bodge of a Chieftan in Hartlepool but other than that I know nothing.
  8. We had some, 4 I think, at Leeming around 1986 - 90. They had been originally used by the QRF but passed on to us to make use of as we could for store purposes. Eventually scrapped when we were issued with RUBB Shelters and redundant buildings.
  9. Also to be seen in post 48. The ramp does not look like the usual Bailey or HGOB Bridge section so possibly a custom built ramp.
  10. 22 Engineer regiment became established at Perham Down Tidworth in the 1970's Not sure if they went to Tidworth direct from Tripoli or via another location. There was a 6 Fd Sqn with them at that time, along with 8, 52 and 1 other, but 6 were in 1978 an AMFL Sqn geared up for service in the Arctic and Norway. Bit of a change from Tripoli if it is the same unit.
  11. Now I remember what the REME letters really represented ..... REME -Royal Engineers minus experience. That goes along with ACC - Andy Capps Commandos or RCT - Rickshaws, Camels and Taxis Echo all the comments about the photos and comments.
  12. I take it that you have renamed the file name to lead people astray? Otherwise answers saying NBC Foul water Ventilator etc . That would be too easy. Drain rod connector.
  13. If anyone's interested I have a belt driven lathe available. Ex model engineer so not suitable for big stuff.
  14. That's all relying on there being no alterations to the belt run. The firm I work for adds in extra pulleys for various bits of kit which means different belt lengths are needed between otherwise similar vehicles. Should not affect many older vehicles but newer ones it is something to be aware of.
  15. Does anyone have a list of the surviving examples of these ex Army railway locos. One has apparently just been plinthed outside a recycling centre in Notts Number is painted as 220. I am involved in the potential restoration of another earlier version MEF 44 later 70037 at the NYMR Pickering
  16. This is one of the 275's I used UK and BAOR
  17. Not seen a 175 in action but did use 275's
  18. And then there is this. Might not be suitable for a coat of IRR paint.
  19. Was passing through Leyburn Nth Yorkshire yesterday (Sat 23rd) about 16.00 When I came across a number of Jeeps and other Historic Military vehicles plus bodies in various uniforms. I could not stop but appeared to be at least 10 vehicles on the Market Place amongst various other vehicles and stalls. Anymore detail known?
  20. Welcome in. I suppose Andy Capp's Commandos and Army Can't Cook are both old hat?
