  1. sounds like a great chance to find out more about mine at the same time my Jimmy is 488311 manufactured some time in 1944 I believe ????
  2. Great Stuff , I m impressed with all the digging that was done to create the bunkers , pits and trenches , thats not to say the other details weren't also well done , the signs and displays of equipment , the total added up to an award winning its obvious why . Yes please post more Photo's!!!!!
  3. I wondered if we could continue this thread asking each member what the nickname of their vehicle was , if it was on the vehicle or their pick? Mine is Unnamed at present but may discover details as its sanded down.
  4. Kind of frightening , having an engine fail that easily and thats in very light use , Who would want to have been assigned to vehicles like those in a war time environment , where that failure could be deadly!
  5. I dont have a list of production dates sorry , yours is earlier than mine that's all I can say.
  6. tm 9 -801 say's cckw-353 -a2 ,164 inch wheel base, banjo axle, cargo body type , no winch
  7. wow that makes for a very delicate engine ! I m sure in that case one must keep an eye on the tachometer at all times if one wanted to avoid engine failure :dunno:
  8. right side or passenger side frame rail just behind front tire may need to scrape a bit to find it but thats the location
  9. well thats what I call Truth in advertising ! hehehehe. Just keep him away from the nice officer :police:
  10. I dont know if many here have seen this one minute clip of a short ride in an open cab Jimmy ..... here you go . Something went wrong...
  11. What do you figure the crane set up weighed?seems it was a massive bunch of hardware . were there originally a weight box and winches back there? if so what was the winch rated at in tons?
  12. True , very true . Some are drawn by the History some by the Mechanical aspect some by the Memories either having served or had a connection to someone who did. What is the more important reason ? All are equal , its the fellowship of sharing and adding to the experience I think that keep's a Group going and others wanting to be a part of it .
  13. Ok if the group were to be heading to an event then The Music would have to be "Convoy" by C.W. Macall
  14. Check out the Closed cab convertion to open in "Wheels and Tracks" issue #22 on pages 31 and 34 to get that closed/open cab look just right !!! Gives it that 1940's convertable top look that is guaranteed to draw all the Girls away from the Jeep's and Dodge's.
  15. I have found this thread only by accident , I didn't think I had much to learn in the " British Vehicles " category I was wrong . I must say , I m amazed at how much work and creative engineering have been used to rebuild and restore a long lost and rightfully described Historic Military Vehicle !!! By God don't you worry about any one being able to fault any of your work , They Can Not !!! I don't think there is a truck mechanic Veteran still alive from WW1 .Even He would have to admire how hard you have worked and been so very careful in trying to get every detail's right. What with the collection of Photograph's and details of your restoration no that's not the right word, the "rebirth" is as close as I can come to find a word that might do it justice . You have had set back's true, but you have found a way foreward each time , I m sure the day when you fire it up for the first time and it is put into gear It will be a glorious event No one there will ever forget !!!!
  16. I believe a number of weasels were also used in Korea as they found them to be good for crossing the muddy rice fields and other swampy grounds. Yes from what I have read the weasels were developed for the10th mountain division use in winter warfare. The limiting factor on ownership is getting replacement tracks of which up to now have not been available in years but I did read that an outfit Carroll ind is think of making brand new tracks see this site www.carrolltech.com
  17. I think if you look carefully along the barrel of the artillery piece you will see the unit did have lights , something distracted the other driver or they did not work ???
  18. They knew the truth of what living and being under occupation meant , they were willing to do anything to be free again .Tragic that it took as long as it did for their freedom to return
  19. Its true , but only in hidesight, at the time they planned and committed them selves to taking out the Guns they thought were there , that is until they actually scaled the cliff's and learned the truth , the hard way . May times battles are fought with incorrect or bogus information and many have died as a result .
  20. Quite different conditions for the Allied pow's kept by the Germans a-what ? An amazing feat and all done under war condition's !
  21. Sorry My mistake I thought it was the other one . Should have looked for the mil regist. number on the hood . Seems you got all the bugs out as you made 150 miles with it all total this time .
  22. seem the "cider" tent was a WMD in disguise! to have affected so many , you are forewarned stay only at your peril
  23. Very Impressive the vehicles the mileage and Great Weather it all makes for a most enjoyable time I m sure . Make's all that repair work on the Halftrack worth while then....bet you had a few doubts when you were in the middle of it !!
