  1. A wise observation ! I didn't want to say anything about that possibility as each of us decides whats safe or not. I like that new first photo you added it like the other two the 6th and 9th photo's also taken on the drivers side . Photo's taken on the passenger side from the front at a slight angle it could be any Jimmie but in a profile shot on the drivers side there no mistaking what a rare Jimmie it is . Have you been able to raise the partition in the bed ? often the hinge has rusted and seized if the canvas has been off a long time and out in the weather. Hows Your Jimmie doing I see it in the background ?
  2. That CCKW is looking really Sweet all the wood and the paint work super job . Love the pics from the drivers side on the airportables it's the best angle to show off the frame modification . Have you driven your Jimmie with all the jerry cans full of gas yet ? I wondered how much harder it would steer with that extra 20 gallons out there since that adds about 200lbs what with the gas , the gas cans and the steel work , both your Jimmie and mine have winches which is 700 lbs by its self. and theairportable frame and dump body mod. adds 226 lbs.which explains why our trucks aren't as nimble as either regular CCKW Dumps or the even lighternon-winch Cargo Jimmies which weigh in at 10,350lbs. ours at 12,176 lbs. roughly
  3. cckw split axle front wheel bearing wrenches are 3 7/16 oct. the rear are 2 3/4 hex. k-d part # 2452 for front 2440 for rear
  4. other choices would be NAPA # ECH RR174 or champion J8C or AC 45 or new Autolite 295 .
  5. Hows the Brother in laws Duce doing , thought I ask for an update . did he /you find any suprises along the way ?
  6. could that be Jim Rockford of the Rockford files? series played by James Garner
  7. You made the right choice , giving it thought and wanting to do something positive with this piece of history , as long as its perserved it has options , if destroyed there are NO options.
  8. I grant you most Americans would rather use something engine powered rather than something hand powered but if those winches are as strong and versatile as they claim I m sure the extreme off roaders and smaller construction outfits would find them a handy tool to have .
  9. LOL Well Done , a clever twist ! :-D what of the Crocodiles , Alligators and Buffalo's all were landing craft weren't they ? a shame that no members have them ......YET and I completely forgot about the Weasels Otters and Dukws

  11. That was a great interview , lots of hope for the future of opening the collection at somepoint :computerterror: Since I m here and know only what has been posted about the Wheatcroft Collection , thru the picture's and the Gentleman who's recently joined who's a researcher for the org. What's Mr. Wheatcroft's age , if Im being Impolite I m sorry , I have not seen any photo's of Him so have no idea of his age. He has a number of people working on the collection and taking care of the operation , I m sure he must have quite a fortune to afford it all , or is it a group of people ? In what business or other did he make his money ?
  12. Welcome to the group army driver , where are you located ?
  13. Welcome to the Group , hope you can post a couple of photo's of your beauties when you get a chance . With all the other Ferret's , Pig's , Fox's and such here its getting risky to walk thru the Club parking lot anymore !!!
  14. the skill of other drivers ,something like that was written in Readers Digest a while ago . in which the driver of a large RV was towing his much smaller car behind on a A frame all proper and legal ...... he's driving along and comes to a 4 way stop, that's an intersection where there are stop signs for all four roads . well the fellow at the intersection waves him thru , as he goes thru the fellow who had waved him across slams into the towed vehicle , The driver of the RV is sure the other fellow had given him the OK to proceed :?. the other fellows comment following the crash was something like...... it was one thing to let you get thru but I wasn't about to let that other guy go as well!!
  15. Welcome , Your English is fine and I agree that's a great looking model . Do you have any photo's of your other completed WW2 vehicles ? :computerterror:
  16. You obviously believe in having lots of toys, :-) nothing wrong with that , it gives you a verity of things to drive so you don't get bored , the problem is you can only drive one at a time ! :-D Unless you call your mates up and then you still can only drive one but you can see the others motoring along. ;-) while having your own convoy!

I can understand if your referring to missions flown by the B-52's in Vietnam I m sure those were at 25,000 or higher altitudes but I have VHS tapes of F-104 thunder chief's dropping drag assisted bomb's at conciderably lower altitudes something like 300 feet , given the Jungle trees stand 100 tall or so and with heavy clouds and hills thats pretty darn low, while thats still high compared to stirring up dust with the aircraft .
  19. never heard of them before , thanks for the information and the link , wonder why they never started a branch in the USA ?
  20. Yes , I agree they are fuel carriers .and judging the weight of those tire/fuel cells I say it must be a Tank . Challanger perhaps?
  21. I take it you have been driving this combination for some time ,and are quite familiar with the roads you use going to the events , Still it is very impressive indeed, what do your figure your average mileage to be when you traveling fully loaded like that ?
  22. welcome to the Fun house , ooops welcome to the Club House , just ask away and one of these fine Ferret owners / mechanical wizards will be Glad to help , of course some of them expect a cuppa and donuts when making sage mechanical prognostications
