  1. I believe some one was trying to trace a couple of those snow-gos that were used on an airport in new york state until the 70's , he had a request for information on the GMC.org site ? I might be wrong .
  2. Same here Andy Have a Very Happy Birthday
  3. Yes I agree those are very realistic and loads of details , very nice
  4. Those are very good questions but I don't have the answers, perhaps one of the other Mechanic's can give us all the answer.
  5. Sounds like the To Do list is pretty long . a few hours underneath anyhow. Hope you either have a warm garage or that you have a few tarps to drape over the sides to stop the wind ?
  6. If thats what you want ? remember you sometimes get more than you asked for ! like the rains over there this year , I m think you may be in for a very cold and snow time of it , I ll keep positive thought that no one will get hurt if the blizzards do hit .... Judging by what has been shown on HMVF TV on the secondary road net work ,you dont have much room for that white stuff in the first place , it would likely shut down a big part of the Country !!!! :dunno:
  7. here's the instruction on posting photo's http://www.hmvf.co.uk/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=38&board=78.0
  8. Well at least you tried everything else before diving in and then finding it was something else. I keep my fingers crossed for you that it all goes well and easily
  9. Thats really an amazing change from the first photo's you posted through these going from blue to green its looking great ! ;-)
  10. what ! and Not a Hippo , Grizzly , Grayhound Staghound , Boarhound or a possably mythical Dragon to be seen I 'd say this wild animal park is very much in need of a through and complete inventory accounting to see that these missing specimens are found and add to the collection ASAP !.
  11. My Airportable came from D. Van Dam B.V. Yard in Ziest in 1990, that it had just arrived a short time earlier as part of the last 250 WW2 U.S. trucks being surplus from the Netherland Military. At that time a plain Cargo Jimmie without winch was going for $2,500.00 Dollars U.S.
  12. I thank you for the nice welcome and the Great group of O.D. addicts even if we differ on Pre-WW2 or WW2 or even Post War Vintage Vehicles every one has a Great interest in Learning and exploring so many Facets of these Historical Vehicles , even if they own Many or none. That speaks of the Leadership and Organization of the Group , Its both flexable a bit free wheeling at times and still Controlled with out being heavy handed . A very difficult balance to maintain . How are your vehicles coming along ? getting ready to put them away now?
  13. thats the basic difference in plugs is the heat range they work at and the reach into the chamber . In reading the chart again they do list from hotter to cooler plugs that depends on how the engine is run slower speed and lots of stop and go you would use a hotter plug to prevent fouling or pre-ignition for much long distance driving a cooler plug would be advisable for example the hottest champion is hot< j11 j8 j7 j6 > cold
  14. I can see it now Santa drops off at Rick's Place a bunch of used up old bits for a Matador and some worn out Champ bits and a plastic 1/16 scale model of a Dingo minus a few bits ....... seems ole Saint Nick's memory and eye sight were a bit affected by the Half case of Beer He sampled on his way to Ricks the other half he dropped and broke most of the bottles but left the mess for Rick to take care of , Santa not wanting to have any evidence of drinking on board his sleigh. and Some very old and very tattered unwashed socks of Saint Nick's .As for the Privacy , Not even Santa can give you that ...... Have A Marry Christmas !!!! :-D :-D :-D  :computerterror:
  15. Where would this hobby be with out the internet ! I looked in on the Norwegian link :computerterror: and the spent a great time checking out the range of information through the 7 site's listed there . the first one at Http://www.dodgewc54.com had a section with the stories of the ambulance drivers , really interesting to read something I would not have found as easily or simply while I don't have a Dodge WC54 now, I might just want one  Just need to win that Big Money Lottery so I can have more TOY'S :-D
  16. I have not seen many . the limit on the chain hoist was 500kg or 1100 lbs. other photo's of the "set no.7" the proper description ( my error in the earlier post ) can be seen in The book by Boniface and Jeudy "The GMC a Universal Truck" pages 72 and 73. I m sure many were removed as it obstructed the bed of the truck making loading and unloading a Quite literal pain in head and back.
  17. To see this in action check out the issue #121 June 2007 of Military Vehicles Magazine on page 36 middle left or page 38 top. One other thing about the design of the dump body was that in service the rack side's were to be removed so that when the partition was raised and material was placed in the body like loose soil or similar it could only be piled so high at which point the angle or slope would then limit its amount by falling off the truck . this was a way to limit the max load being carried. The CCKW wasn't a real Dump truck not heavy enough frame or dump body, it was a multi-role vehicle cargo, troop carrier and dump truck.
  18. The partition is to limit the load placed in the dump bed when used as a dump truck as the dump body frame does not extend the entire length of the body. IE when you look above the gas tank or the spare tire you will see the hoist frame end's at the hinge of the partition. If you heat the hinge and work some penetrating oil into it it should come free. there may still be a handle /latch at the cab end of the partition in the middle cant recall if that turns or not take a peek when you raise the bed . Also you will see a slide bolt at each end of the panel on the bottom side or the cab side when raised . If the troop seats are in place you will need to raise the second leg so the panel will come up vertically then the slide bolts will move outward into matching holes in the sides of the dump .
  19. A Very Happy Birthday KYLE     :yay:
  20. Which dealer's yard was that taken in ? I wonder how many of those Jimmies were saved :? and how many were broken up for parts or the number that were simply cut apart for scrap metal :-o :shake:  :-(
  21. its very possable a valid cross over , I m using a reference made by " Portrayal Press" dated 1987 so there are likely other brands available now that weren't then .
  22. as far as i know it was the standard for the CCKW , AFKWX, DUKW also the 1/2 ton dodge wc, 3/4 ton Dodge wc , MB,GPW ,Mack NM and Weasel
  23. its a #7 Wrecker Set mounted on a CCKW to be able to do vehicle repair and recovery/towing of vehicles smaller than a CCKW. Could also be used to lift the trails of artillery pieces on to the pintle hook of this 352 short wheel base CCKW
  24. the tm 9-801 mentions the clutch needs 2 1/2 inch free- travel with new facings .as the facings wear ,adjusting nuts on the adj.link should be backed off to maintain a 2 1/2 inch free- travel....until the lock nut is at the end of the thread then the clutch may be operated until free travel is reduced to 1 inch at which time clutch driven member assembly (with new facings) must be replaced . There is a grease fitting on the pedal shaft might need lubing or the pull back spring might be weak?
