  1. I'm impatient, I just can't wait that long :drive:
  2. I wish I had a Diamond T wrecker  I wish I was 24
  3. That must be one well-built truck - unladen weight looks to be 8.36 tonnes! Anyone else surprised? Some were later rebuilt with modern Renault cabs and new engines, pushing ULW to 8.6 t (payload up from 4 to 5 t)
  4. Oh dear, I can't read- you were asking about HGV driving licence, not MOT! Scribble deleted.....carry on.
  5. But in all seriousness Deadline, you are so right I have a great compilation manual for the jeep which comprises extracts from Army Motors as well as the original manuals, also great tips from restorers. If I had bothered to read it I would have saved myself a whole year of hassle trying to start my Jeep with a retrofitted Solex carburettor - when I finally checked the manual out ( for something else) I found advice on how to use the choke on these French carbs....... Now who do we know who might be able to put together something similar for the GMC? :cool2:
  6. :n00b::rotfl: The phrase "flogging a dead horse" springs to mind. :-D
  7. I'm sure Radiomike is correct. Sounds like a job for an armour plate drill bit with those very flat rake angles. Guess they do an armour plate rotabroach bit for something less than a good GMC is worth?
  8. Mike - Looks like a Kenworth version has turned up on Milweb Heavy!
  9. Also see http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?582-A-Jeep-above-the-rest&highlight=rotabuggy Mind you the Rotachute is a new one!!
  10. Urgently wanted - (very) High Speed DIFFERENTIAL for Clarkat B :-D
  11. *%^@ my head hurts I'm not surprised - for a start you've missed off the end of the email address - then you've gone and put spaces in. It should be *%^@myheadhurts.co.uk :coffee:
  12. I'm pretty certain 'Nah' wasn't exactly what Bernard said.......
  13. Don't you have to get permission form HMC&E to do this? I believe it would have to be an emergency e.g. fuel shortage for them to allow it? We did it during the last fuel shortage (tanker embargo) - it was certainly the case then that authority had to be sought from C&E. No need to clean out afterwards but advised to keep copy of letter of authorisation in each vehicle for some time in case of checks.
  14. There's a discussion going on in the postwar heavies bar about whining Scammell gearboxes - they've obviously never driven the Maxi's nephew Austin Allegro then :red: ok ok it was a hand-me-down from an aunt and I didn't keep it long......
  15. I'm sure Jack banned all mention of Austin Maxis on here a long while ago :readpaper:
  16. Yes, I guess you have to be pretty brave to put glossy paint onto old panelwork - but you've put so much work into that cab you've well and truly got away with it! It's amazing what panelwork gremlins olive drab will cover
  17. I hear they've recently all been secretly scrapped to make room for a load of tanks
  18. Isn't this a hang-up from the changeover from defining width by inches to mm? 825x20 would be 8.25" x 20". The new metric designation equivalent would be 205 x 20 825 x 20 where 825 is in mm would be a tyre 33" wide  Crazy that they metricated the width but not the rim size
  19. All or many of these were sold through Withams - lovely looking condition!! What else do you reckon (or hope) theyve still got hidden away then? :cool2:
  20. Take the GMC example - 34 x 7 is 20" rim and 2 x 7" as your maths above. Now these were replaced by 7.50 x 20 being pretty much identical o.d., so 7.50 x 20 must be about 90% aspect ratio. 800 x 20 means 8" x 20", and 825 x 20means 8 1/4 " x 20". If similar 90% aspect ratio for modernish tyres then you need approx. 6.50 x 20? 7.50 x 20 would be a big increase in diameter (approx 2"?). Or maybe not :red: I'm still willing to learn
  21. What better reason do you need? Hope it works :-D:-D:-D www.ww2A2dating.com
  22. A small point, but I do wonder about the originality of the girl in the Liberty Belle artwork. Is she the same original wartime girl, or was this artwork recreated for the restored Liberty Belle? Difficult to be specific, but there's something about the original wartime pinups which give a distinct period feel, which I find a bit lacking in Miss Belle. (It's just that I'm sure I met her in Roxy's nightclub in Leeds in 1991 :-D. ) Sorry, I'm not trying to be picky, artwork is very much personal taste. The main point is it's your jacket and your artwork - anyone else's view is theirs alone and irrelevant. The important thing is that you should be happy with it :-)
  23. Way to go! You won't be disappointed with the finished article! Glad to be of help.
  24. Well keep up your standard of restoration and you'll be in the running for a GOLD in the 100m Winching, Andy :cheesy:
