  1. Ney, ney, and thrice ney (in a best Frankie Howard accent).
  2. Well certainly a mobile crane or excavator base vehicle, the cab looks to be a civilian variant, so maybe a civilian crane? The owner will naturally see a lot of weight in that chassis. Good luck, not sure what I would do with it to finish it off as without the crane it may seem a bit of an oddball machine. The rear bogie has solid beams therefore only springing effect is from the tyres.
  3. Well one thing leads to another as they say, RSB: http://www.retronaut.com/2013/06/shop-dummy-in-germany/
  4. Fantastic! I didn't even get as far as the WW1 field, so missed it yesterday. All credit to them.
  5. He might well swap it for a set of anti-vibration mounts for his airbed......
  6. 10 minutes in the queue with the official programme and a pen, and I had my shopping schedule and route mapped out thanks to the trade area plan and list of traders - well worth the £5 cost to increase the efficiency of my shopping time 10 fold! OK initially I declined the offer of a programme at 08.30 (nothing if not eager) - but after the opening delay was announced (Saturday incident) I realised we'd be waiting for some time, and decided it might be money well spent. It was also on the website but I was not organised enough to print it off beforehand
  7. That's a very nice picture, L Lines! Care to share the method you used? Wouldn't it be great if you could get a pair of 'retro' glasses which transformed everything you saw into that same style :-D
  8. Story went that the prop picked up a tyre and pulled it around, tearing out the panel. About the result one might expect. The panel may not have been 'removed' by the tyre, but bear in mind that the vehicle would have been inspected after the incident, hence that and other removed panelling.
  9. Yes, a tyre apparently. Reckon a bit of heavy grating near the prop would stop any recurrence, but is it now too late to alter the fate of these tour DUKWs?
  10. It would certainly be good to find something which works on 6v and will replace or adapt into the standard U.S. rear cluster. Trouble is there are now so many different units out there it isn't easy to get to try them all!!
  11. Suggestion: Read up the previous threads on here on LEDs. There is a link on one to a motorcycle LED maker (6v). Some points: 1) have you checked the voltage on your GMC? May have enough voltage drop at the back end to be below 6v. 2) have you checked voltage on railway transformer? I thought they were 12v 3) are you using 12v LEDs? If so you'll be lucky if they do work on 6v - some will work down to say 8 volts. 4) dead battery may give enough voltage (say 9v) on very light load. 5) most single LEDs will work on something like 2v - but when assembled into units they are voltage specific within reason. I spent a while playing around with some LED light clusters - do not assume they will work on 6v!
  12. Had a look at the new London double decker bus on the Cummins stand at Goodwood Festival of Speed - come on now, how about a retro styled Matador looking recovery truck, TFL? :cool2:
  13. Where's Grasshopper when you need his knowledge? Gone back to my original thought as pcd of holes looks too small for wheel rims.
  14. You wouldn't be the only one who was sure you were right when you weren't, Ray   Out of interest, what was the cause of the piston failure in the K5s?
  15. You could have solved it. It would be a neat trick to lift a bus by simply bolting this gizmo to the drive hub, and the gizmo would give a good clearance between crane and side of bus. I could imagine it might have been not uncommon for buses to lose their wheels, and this would be a quick way to get the axle off the ground and some packing underneath. Edit: After a coffee and a think :coffee:, I'm not so sure. The gizmo holes look right for 10 stud wheels, not the drive shaft flange of a hub, so it would not be easy to get onto an axle with collapsed wheels. Pulling a bus sideways maybe??
  16. I think they mean there is no minimum speed but you're not allowed on there in the first place unless the vehicle is CAPABLE of doing at least 25mph.
  17. Get your big greasy mits off - I saw it before you! :-D
  18. I think you'll find the 'move over into right 2 lanes to keep on M11' section starts some way before this point. In fact we had pulled over as soon as it started to let the trailing Oshkosh - who was indicating he wanted to pull over - do the same (we got a nice big thumbs up out of the cab for that!), this photo is of the lead one. :police:
  19. Well, yesterday - 2 x Oshkosh rigs running unladen up the M11. Taken from a slightly smaller low loader as we dragged slowly past! Very nice outfits - they certainly do look the part, but really should have SCAMMELL badges and mud flaps..... The dual winches and fairleads are an interesting set-up.
  20. Before you struggle unnecessarily with the side window rubbers - I don't know if these vans were ever used as 'Technicals' but those side windows would make really good open machine gun ports.... If anyone can find you an original RN .50cal Bedford CA gun mount then I'm sure Gritineye can! :cool2:
  21. Do a search on here for LEDs It has been discussed in depth before. Not all (in fact I don't think many) 12V LED light units will work on 6V - I've tried a couple without luck. A lot of commercial vehicles and artic trailers have LED lamps now.
  22. Oh just great. Yet another thread that will appear on an HMVF search for LATRINE.
