  1. Well actually it is! Staines, (Old radio joke, nuclear bombs! Remove staines , and any other town) Marks the point where Port of London Authority takes over the Thames and Slough (Come freindly bombs etc.) Anywhere below that isn't really London.

  6. Dodge's are reffered to as 'BEEPS'. I've talked to vetrans who say this was purley a press thing. In service they were always called Jeeps, or Dodges. The reason being Beep and Jeep were to easy to mix up and you wanted the vehicle of a size you'd asked for.
  7. Yes, There are some photos about. Vehicles were also shipped on small tyres and with no spare wheel. Both to save space and rubber in short supply. One reason the WC54 was superseded by the KD64 was shipping space. There is a tale told of Admiral Rickover (Nautilus) When he was a junior officer in the Pacific WW2, he came across two enlisted men who had started a fire with some 2x4 beams. He ripped into them explaining the cost of manufacture , shipping and the men's lives it had cost to get the beams to the theatre of war.
  8. Considering a Jeep was built for men averaging 1.6 meters trall ! you'd need the drivers seat in the back!:wow: Anyone remeber the old Fiat 127? A sewing machine with a lid? I knew someone your sizes and well built, who drove one. He litterally had his knees each side of the sterring wheel!
  9. If you leave for now, you can always tart up later. Once done, the history is gone. The age old problem.
  10. It is posible to get copies of maps on CD. I have a 1930's jersey map that was done by a friend of mine with acess. The trouble is you do need a humongous scanner and printer. Try one of the local sign writers, they may have the kit. Amazon have links to independent dealears, I've got odd maps and books through them. The original maps are normally to valuable to display.
