On the charging of portable things front. There are now very good solar panels available. I find one very useful. And yes the modern ones do work OK in dull weather.
To True Degsey! My critera for any equipment: Will it work up a mountain at midnight, when I'm wet cold and scared S88888. Thats why I also use a Sonim phone, a Land Rover phone without the logo so £200 cheaper! :-D
I like the Fuji cameras. They have a great low light setting and good vidieo. Best bet mooch into the store and try them all. Make daughter stand completly still as test subject for a couple of hours, that will put her off cameras for life!:cool2:

Try the old trick of heating engine oil in a pan till it just starts to smoke, then pour into the cylinders and leave for a while. Often gets through the varnish and grip. Parrafin, sorry mate Kerosene and disiel mix can also free off the pistons.
