  1. They are nice, much like the RAF ones, the earlier Bedford SBs had big double doors and steps at the back for the ambulance role, but the later ones were just passenger buses. Looks like the War Office had a contract to supply all Services with the same vehicle. Paul.
  2. I may have by then, Series 3 needs an electrickery job, Series 2 is getting a new bulkhead. Also that weekend on 2nd May is Cobbaton Museum clearout, which I am going to, so would not be able to commit the Landy for the complete show. http://www.cobbatoncombat.co.uk/index.htm
  3. Do you mean any of these? See pics
  4. Nice to have lots more info from everyone, it's great to learn.
  5. Iain, This from the National Archives; 1914-1920 Medal card of Mulley, V Corps Regiment No Rank Royal Signals 2311268 Signalman Royal Signals 625803 Signalman Indian Unattached List 2073 Signalman
  6. It was just a hunch. The National Archives holds a medal record card for V. Mulley, Royal Signals for WW1, and the Royal Signals Museum does a figure of a mounted signaller, much like your pic. Can't tell you much about the uniform except the Signals cap badge changed in 1947 ? or about that time. No doubt there will be more info incoming on the uniform (then I will learn more as well!)
  7. Well, I had hoped the info might be of use. I have had previous experience of trying to identify bearings and now have half a dozen shortcuts on the computer to bearing manufacturers, suppliers, cross reference tables, after spending 3 entire days trying to identify a UK supplier for my Mitsubishi rear axle bearings (with no success!). They had to come from Japan in the end. As you said yourself, Explorer on the box was a bit too obvious for it to be from a Scammell!
  8. Ditto Daz76, I am intrigued, never heard of a Bedford AD, AC yes but not AD.
  9. All, These are indeed industrial application bearings, the SKF ones are of the Explorer series, high quality and about £100. For the RHP (NSK) one, see below 23218EJW33 RHP Bearing Specification Price: £989.38 (Excluding VAT at 20%) Hope this helps.
  10. Is it a Civil Defence salvage vehicle? There was an article on these in a mag last year. Classic Military Vehicles or Heritage Commercials or one of those. They were attached to various fire brigades.
  11. When my Series 3 gearbox was replaced some time ago, the new one didn't have the filler cover on top, so I was forced to fill it through the side plug. After trying various methods, which all took a long time, I bought a suck in squeeze out thing, much like a grease gun, but for oil. Job done in 5 minutes.
  12. More great pics there, the kind you can't get at airshows with too many people in the way. I see Sea Kings every day, going out, coming back from my flat. Lynx and Hawks too.
  13. Very nice pics, especially of the Sea King bagger. Ref the Chinooks, the Mk3 will have new analogue cockpits to replace the American digital cockpits, these in turn will be replaced by UK digital cockpits. The National Audit Office slated the MoD for this piece of incompetent Defence Acquisition.
  14. For those who have never been, the museum at Thorpe Abbots is well worth a visit.
  15. This might be a silly question but are all the earths OK? My experience.....earth lead at right hand side of engine compartment next to bonnet stay became corroded..no lights; the little earth connection halfway up the left hand inside of the windscreen dropped off.....no horn, no indicators.
  16. I think this is so hilarious, could I copy it onto facebook please. I have seen most of the things on this thread when out in the Landy. Regards, Paul.
  17. You might be able to get help from the Small Battery Company. I got some original batteries and equivalents for Bardic Lamps. http://www.smallbattery.company.org.uk
  18. Hi all, Found this pic of a Lightweight with Makrolon VPK on something called Land Rover Madness. May help with the knowledge.
  19. I only knew that because I used to own a book on military ammunition.
