  1. I have seen several variants of this, and new ones of these types of knife can be bought commercially. http://www.sheffieldknives.co.uk/acatalog/Military_Knives.html and also at the bottom of this page http://www.sheffieldknives.co.uk/acatalog/Seamens_Knives.html
  2. Lots of info here, a very interesting site, if anyone hasn't found it yet. http://britains-smallwars.com/main/index1.html
  3. ZB298 web search does go off into some interesting things doesn't it. http://www.skomer.u-net.com/projects/radar.htm
  4. Recycled in...Turkey. What a shame that this country no longer has the means to recycle ships. Could sell the metal to the British Steel industry, Corus...owned by India. Sad.
  5. Caley's Marching Chocolate (Milk) is nice if you can get it. (It can be ordered online)
  6. Here's my effort, before I saw later colour pictures. I do believe there is a Defender in the Netherlands painted in Berlin Brigade camo.
  7. I believe the truck is a Leyland 3 ton A type (I stand to be corrected!) A bonneted 3 ton lorry was approved for the War Office subsidy scheme in 1912. This was better known as the RAF Type which originally had a 32bhp 4 cylinder petrol engine and worm drive but in final form had a 36bhp engine, cone clutch, 4 speed crash box and double reduction spur and bevel rear axle.
  8. Ref: "In the Falklands there were no civilian casualties". Whoever wrote this needs to study history.
  9. Many thanks, Regards, Paul.
  10. Hi all, Does anyone have any info / details / piccies on Claribel, a radar type device fitted to Land Rovers in Northern Ireland, which indicated from which direction a round had been fired? There was mention of it in a book on the British Army in NI.
  11. As others say, the Tankograd book is excellent. If you've got the pennies it's well worth it, or get someone to lend it. There are a couple of shots on this site, which is excellent for lots of other stuff as well. http://www.berlin-brigade.de/british/infantry.html Have also noticed another thread on here for Berlin Brigade paint schemes. Couple of pics attached.
  12. Going to have to repaint my 109 then, as I can now see the colours are incorrect. Nice to have more colour pics. One of the MoD Guard Service guys (ex Army) at Yeovilton said they had a few Landys painted in it, and it was a b*gg*r to do!
  13. I think I shall be looking out for that myself then, Thank you.
  14. For those interested in airfield architecture, the following two books may be of interest. British Airfield Buildings of the Second World War British Airfield Buildings Vol 2 The expansion and inter war periods. Both by Graham Buchan Innes. I found mine through the Associated Book Exchange.
  15. For anyone who hasn't already found it, lots of images can be found here www.defenceimagedatabase.mod.uk/fotoweb
  16. Just pasted this into web search and it appears to work. http://www.movcon.org.uk/History/history.htm
  17. There is a brief article in the http://www.movcon.org website on the CVHQ Grantham. (under Units)
  18. Also found these; They date from July 1978 CV HQ RCT Grantham CV HQ at Prince William of Gloucester Barracks, Grantham These seem to confirm earlier findings below
  19. Bl**dy acronyms. Having been the victim of MoD acronyms, I know how confusing it can be. There can be one acronym having one or more meanings! Have found this; CV HQRA (Central Volunteer HQ Royal Artillery) May contribute to the final answer. Having looked further this may be a red herring.
  20. The tug looks like a Douglas / Sentinal Tugmaster, built by Sentinel of Shrewsbury. We used them back in the 70s to tow Britannias at Brize Norton. Some had cabs, some not. There is one currently residing at Kemble. Regards, Paul. Now having said that I have looked at a picture of a Sentinel Tugmaster, and in the picture below, the bottom half is Sentinel, and the top half looks like Leyland Martian? Curiouser and curiouser.
  21. Your remark on no TV amuses me. One of the other things I do is Western (as in Cowboy) weekends. I once knew someone who had to excuse himself to get back to his caravan because he might miss eastenders. I thought, why didn't you stay at home. Paul.
  22. Clive, That's the ones I remember from my RAF days, with front sliding door, not a folding door like later. Took my first trip in one of those from Lincoln to RAF Swinderby as a new entrant (about a 100 years ago!).
