  1. As usual the advice (particularly that given by the AA) is confused as it doesn't properly consider vehicles old enough to not be fitted with seatbelts. To quote from the original DirectGov reference above: [h=3]"If your vehicle has no seat belts[/h] You can't carry any children under three years old in vehicles without seatbelts, like classic cars. If you're travelling with children over three years old, they must only sit in the back seats." Andy
  2. There's a Mk.1 432/30 hanging about as it keeps appearing in assorted films, most recently as a US Gulf War APC(!) in The Manchurian Candidate but also in Salt. Andy
  3. Better put the GPMG back quick, then ..... :-) Andy
  4. Hasn't this all been rather OBE'd by the "War Horse" replica? Andy
  5. As ever, it's difficult to extract facts from a newspaper report but I think there's more to it than first appears. Aren't the Council saying that he has fenced off more than he needs to ensure safety, and that they've already given him legal avenues that he's chosen not to pursue? Andy
  6. I've still got an old BR "The Royal Navy" from BRNC Dartmouth back in the mid 1970s and it was pretty potent even then. Nowadays we can't even afford the fuel to leave Portsmouth! :-( Andy
  7. That's why there's a "location" field in your profile page ... :-) Andy
  8. You'll find http://www.thexmod.com/ are reasonably priced for the originals. No connection with them, just a satisfied customer! Andy
  9. Engine oil filter: Element Assembly 6438106 NSN: 2940-99-881-5919 Engine air filter: Filter element, air intake NSN: 2940-99-881-8107 Engine Fuel filter: Filter Element Fluid Pressure NSN: 2940-99-881-6588 Gearbox filter: Element Assembly NSN: 2990-99-866-2354 Note that you'll also need some O-rings; the gearbox filter comes with them, the engine filters don't. Andy
  10. Marcus Glenn or Sammy Clarke do exchange units but they aren't cheap. And yes, remember to take off the outlet union before sending the old unit away! Andy
  11. Some sort of recovery truck with turret-mounted working lights? It may say "American Salvage" on the side? Andy
  12. I can't give any advice as I've never owned one but I see that the Xmod have one for sale if it helps: http://www.thexmod.com/item_detail.asp?id=434 Andy
  13. As the damage peels outwards it looks as though the engine decided to eject an internal component! Andy
  14. This might be a stupid question, but before we get all excited about thermostats are we sure it isn't just a faulty temperature gauge? Does the engine feel as though it's up to working temperature? Andy
  15. I love the assorted gloves used as blanking-off plates! :-) Andy
  16. Clive - I absolutely agree about measuring sub-ohm resistances but I wonder if as a first stab a simple continuity test isn't the best approach? These beasties are pretty bomb-proof and the most likely failure mode is overheating through lack of oil. Andy
  17. I hear what you say! In that case, if you haven't done so already check the easy bits that you can do without a pack lift; the throttle linkage under the piano boards and probably most important - the emergency stop cable. Andy
  18. Good - nothing too serious, then! Andy
  19. Hmm - so is that a Section 5 weapon? Andy
  20. Seems a bit of a waste just for a Miata, especially with an 8" reinforced floor! Andy
  21. A modern pulse charger will recondition (by pulsing) as well as charge. Andy
  22. Do you want an actual hotel or a B&B? I know a very nice one in East Burton, just down the road from Bovington ... Andy
  23. Hi Charlie - always glad to meet another Abbot owner! The torsion bars are the same for 432 and 433 but are set at a different ride height. I've got the relevant pages from the manuals if you want to PM me. The bars themselves aren't that easy to come by, considering the number of vehicles that have been scrapped. Marcus Glenn had some last time I looked. Andy
