  1. Welcome aboard! 1990 Mini Cooper S prototype? Andy (who's owned both an original and a BMW Mini Cooper S)
  2. Nice weather for DUKWs, perhaps? :-) Andy
  3. Exactly - from an engineering and common sense point of view, if you're going to muddle them up what's the point of having the numbers in the first place? You'd only need a single number somewhere just to uniquely identify the weapon. Andy
  4. Picking up on a previous point, if anyone's aware of any useful stocks of Abbot spares I'd be interested to know! :-) Andy
  5. Good to see the work up and running again! Andy
  6. I don't see that it's particularly better or worse than anything else at the moment. As said before, buy it when you see it is the name of the game, if you have more than you need you can always play swaps with other people later. MOD will slowly start to sell off the non-Bulldog parts which is why Withams have Allison gearboxes coming out of their ears at the moment. Hopefully some engines will follow .... Andy
  7. It's not too clear from the picture but I think it's an old Plessey Mk IV? Andy
  8. Yes sorry - just noticed the "Oxfordshire" bit! Andy
  9. I'm about to get K Blasting (http://www.kblasting.co.uk) to blast and paint my Abbot and 432. The owner has MVs himself so knows what he's talking about! Andy
  10. I was wondering if a tracked conversion might be in order .... :-) Andy
  11. Thanks all -. I need to measure the pipe but it's about 4mm od from memory. I wonder if something other than steel is the answer, perhaps I could bend it myself round something of suitable diameter and then get someone to do the ends? Andy
  12. Very nicely done, Chris! Andy
  13. Can anyone recommend a firm that can make up pieces of metal pipework? The Abbot has a coiled steel expansion pipe between the water pipe and radiator that should look like item 29 on this drawing: Unfortunately mine looks like this because someone obviously forgot to undo it before removing the radiator! I could do with someone to salvage the ends and make me up a new piece of pipe. Any suggestions gratefully received! Andy
  14. It's a bit late now and my apologies if you've already thought of this, but in my experience with mudguards on FV432s it's worthwhile running a die down what you can of the thread before trying to undo the nut. It's not usually the part of the thread inside the nut that's the problem, it's the exposed bit outside of it that causes the stud to shear. Andy
  15. If it's 95% complete, I wonder what's missing? Andy
  16. I'm not sure about the point of this either, the reasoning is fatally flawed. There are a very, very small number of pre-1960 vehicles on the road. Those that are properly maintained by collectors will be roadworthy. Any that aren't will probably have fallen apart by now anyway - what do you think is the likelihood of a sixty year-old car surviving without maintenance? Andy
  17. They've even got Range Wrecks! :-) http://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/showthread.php?t=20917 Andy
  18. The "diesel bug" is a well known issue with mariners regardless of what type of diesel you're using, so don't be seduced by the idea of so-called Marine Diesel. The bug comes in various forms, some living in the diesel, some living at the diesel/water interface in tanks. It's the dead bugs that clog filters. Andy
  19. Was the Abbot owning that gun displaying a registration number anywhere? Andy
  20. By default your outgoing PMs aren't saved in your Sent folder. Either change your settings as described above, or if you only want to save particular PMs then use "Advanced" mode when replying - there's an option at the bottom of the page to save the PM in your Sent folder. Andy
  21. But isn't the problem not what goes into the tank, it's what it does once it's in there? A filter won't stop the bio-bits entering in the first place, methinks? Andy
  22. Yes, we're still reading! Where will its new home be? Andy
  23. I've had excellent service from Tippers in Newquay: http://www.tippersvintageplates.co.uk/ Andy
  24. No, it's an improperly displayed civilian registration mark, RFF 299. The online DVLA records show manufactured 1954, first registered 1994 although it only appears to have a 888cc engine!. I suggest you claim ownership and get it SORNed. :-) Andy
