  1. Isn't it a bit dangerous cooking beneath a Land Rover Mike
  2. Totally agree with the reasoning and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell us where you drink. Its like £3-3.50 around here. Mind you I can save the money required a lot quicker and not have to abstain for as long.:-D Mike
  3. This link may be of some use http://www.transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/repository/M1%20Inspection%20Manual%20May%2009.pdf It is the IVA manual for passenger vehicles Lists the following as covered A vehicle subject to The Basic IVA Requirements is either: (j) an armoured vehicle as defined in Annex II.A of the 2007 Directive. j. Armoured Vehicle A vehicle intended for the protection of conveyed passengers and/or goods and complying with armour plating anti-bullet requirements. "anti - bullet requirements" shall be interpreted as meaning; the driver and passenger compartment (front, rear and sides including doors and glazing are capable of withstanding ballistic penetration from small arms fire. e.g. materials to CEN 1029 or an equivalent level of protection. However Armoured vehicle is probably aimed at cars for mafia bosses and not tracked military vehicles. The document goes onto list exception for special vehicles and give details of the requirements and descriptions. You may find it does not fit into M1 and needs to be under one of the other classes, although it may not fit into those either. Have this funny feeling of de javu M1 passenger vehicles with four or more wheels and not more than eight seats in addition to the driver’s seat. Determination of the number of seats in a vehicle is as follows; where a seat has no seat belt fitted each 400mm of seat base shall constitute a seat, where seat belts are fitted each seat space with a belt (providing the maximum anchorage separation requirements are not exceeded) is to constitute a seat and any remaining seat base measured to be 400mm or greater is to constitute a seat. All measurements are taken across the front of the seat cushion. At the request of the applicant a vehicle with at least 4 seats and a load area not exceeding 40% of the length of the vehicle and a weight limit of 6500kg max mass may be classed as an M1 vehicle for the purpose of this manual For information on other vehicle categories, the following VOSA IVA inspection manuals should be consulted. •The Light Goods Vehicle IVA Inspection Manual for vehicle category N1 •The Heavy Goods Vehicle IVA Inspection Manual for vehicle categories N2 and N3 •The Bus and Coach IVA Inspection Manual for vehicle categories M2 and M3 •The Trailer IVA Inspection Manual for categories O1, O2, O3 and O4 Hopefully this is of some use. Mike
  4. I know it does in XP, but it is also dependant to some extent on your email software. I now have Windows 7 and use Windows Live Mail and this really makes a mess of things. It cropped it square and made it far to blocky to be any use. Mike
  5. So it looks like it not an outright no its a case of prooving it meets the requirements. Now the problem is working out what they are and what they mean in real terms. I notice you cannot get the C&U online (at least I cannot find it) or the nice leagal document that cost £1K. O wonder if the local library has a copy? Have found a load of amendments though http://www.legislation.gov.uk/title/road%20vehicles%20%28construction%20and%20use%29%20regulations?level=search Have found this though. I believe it is the document set up for the SVA testing of imports and kit cars. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1996/3013/made . Mike
  6. Welcome. Nice pig, looks pretty complete ant in relatively good orfer. Was only discussing fold out riot shields yesterday with another forum memeber and pig owner. Mike
  7. Sorry to hear that Assuming you copied/moved them from the memory card, before editting, all may not be lost. There is software available that maybe able to recover the imaged from the memory card. Some you pay for http://www.photosrecovery.com/ http://www.wgxe.com/photo-recovery.html Some you can get for free http://www.newfreedownloads.com/find/digital-image-recovery.html No idea how well they work, but maybe worth a shot. I have one which came with a Sandisk CF Pro card, Deleting an image does not delete the data, a memory card is a bit like a book. Think of it as having an index and everytime you take a picture it adds apage and notes it on the index. When you delete it you tell the index that a previously used page is blank and it notes this in the index. When you take another picture it can use that blank page.Until you do this the contents of the page normally can ge recovered. Hence when you dispose of an old PC just deleting your bank/personal details does not destroy it as they are still there. You either need to overwrite the whole hard disk with rubbish data (several times) or remove the disk and introduce it to a very larger hammer. Mike
  8. Have a version of this on my laptop. Very good program for free. http://www.gimp.org/ Allows you to edit your photos as well as resize http://docs.gimp.org/2.6/en/gimp-tutorial-quickie-jpeg.html Mike
  9. You will probably find they are working on all fronts to keep any inappropriate vehicles off the road and sadly this makes it harder for those who have unusual, nut compliant vehicles amd those who legitimately and permanantly modify vehicles to make them compliant. I am aware that VOSA and DVLA have been clamping down on strecth limos many of which are non-compliant. I am aware thart C&U regulations dictate that HGVs have to be able to turn within an inner and outer radius range, meaning they can negotiate most roundabouts. I remeber an enteryaining 5 minutes watching a stretched limo (SUV job) trying to to a 180 degree turn on a roundabout. I t involved a 3 point turn using both footways infront and behind. They also need to clamp down on legitimate venicles that have been modified and are no longer compliant, but that is another issue. Mike
  10. What! You mean it is worse than a S3 109:shocked: Mind you my indicators do work properly after a bit of replumbing. One day I may het the headlight highbeam warning light working properly and the charging light, shunt box etc. Some PO was stupid enough to let an electrician near mine. Luckily my plumbing is upto Solihull standards. Mike
  11. Welcome in. Nothing wrong with a good old aircooled VW. Always fancied a Thing but they were quite rare and cost to much. First car was a 73 Beetle, esay to fix and run and good fun. Brother had one and they both got modified. Mike
  12. Honda Goldwings also have a reverse gear (electric). Don't believe reverse has anything to do with classification the 3 wheeler without reverse allowance probably dated back to the 50/60's when you could have an Isetta or Messerschmitt and has most likly been thoroughly closed by now. IIRC trikes have other rules governing use and operation dependant upon wieght etc. Above a certain wieght I believe you require a seatbelt. Motorcycle/sidecar combo registration class may be dependant upon how easy it is to remove the side car. Mike
  13. IIRC it only allowed you to drive a 3 wheeler if it did not have a reverse gear. Not sure if it still applies, but then there are alot less 3 wheelers, with or without reverse. Mike
  14. I rember that, it used to be upto 250cc for solo machines but they reduced this to 125cc but you could ride any bike with a sidecar. Some bright spark then created the sidewinder, to exploit this loophole. It was basically a wheel and a plank which pivoted so you could lean round corners. It also appears that they have changed the rule that allowed learners to carry a pillion passenger who had a full licence. Rules have changed since then and there are numerous ways of getting a licence. dependant on age etc, but you need a bike license for a sidecar. The link below might help clarify things. http://www.motorcycle.co.uk/getdoc/b464be52-72b4-4044-9be9-664b1006c00a/Licence-categories.aspx Mike
  15. Now you are adding a D to the equation this is not good D cancels out A But D = -B -C or more simply D=0 (zero):-(:-(:-( Mike
  16. Had a RHS on the front of a beetle once, helped the handling. Which got a bit bent. Used the following procedure to straighten it quite effectively. Find flat level piece of concrete and place bumber on with high point upwards. Place very large capacity bottle jack on high point. Place very large Massey Ferguson over the whole lot. Attempt to jack up the MF Result one straightened piece of metal. Mike
  17. I suppose you will now be cleaning the rest of your toys:D Mike
  18. Give them 5 minutes and they will quite happily nick your steel shed for scrap. Mike
  19. I believe you are correct there and some very simple maths proves it and does not help the situation. A = B In order to get B you need proceeds from C C = ferret This is a no win situation unless you can sell the wife. In this case A is cancelled out and you are left with B which you can spend on C Mike
  20. Sinking the vehicle up to it's axles made refitting the mudguard retaining bolts a far more comfortable experience. Mike
  21. Bearing in mind one of your earlier comments have you allowed for snow loading. There are also a couple of other options that could be considered as a solution to the original point. Temporary buildings. http://www.aganto.co.uk/temporary-structures.htm http://www.smart-space.co.uk/building-solutions/motor-repair-workshop.html Doubt they are that cheap and you probably need a concrete slab and planning permission, although this may proove esier than for a permanent building. The other option is much more appropriate to the forum and is definitely not permanent. This has it's own problems. Finding one and paying for it. Last time I saw one was around 1982 at RAF Halton. As the resident tent expert Jack may be able to help. http://www.fiddlersgreen.net/models/aircraft/Tent-Hanger-WWI.html OK the website is for a paper model but it has pictures of the real thing. Mike
  22. Totally agree there. But if you need cheap profiled cladding, in relatively small amounts, it is a possible source. I have been known to reject drainage pipes buried in the ground. The client also gets upset when his toilets don't flush properly. Had a friend who built a whole extension from unwanted materials salvaged from building sites before they were skipped just prior to completion. Clients seem to like nice tidy sites at handover as well. Mike
  23. Make friends with a cladding contractor or D&B shed builder. Although a bit thin on the ground at the moment. Have seen large amounts of cladding being dumped because somebody has bent a bit with a piece of plant. When it comes to snagging most clients seem to reject dented buildings. Mike
  24. Totally agree. Had one of those single skin steel sheds, technically on loan to my father at the moment. On some occassions you needed an umbrella when inside. If frame is strongenought you could line it with thin ply on the underside of the purlins/frame with insulation in between. If you don't you might aswell leave things outside. Mike
  25. Sky Hooks are an extremely useful invention. However Building Control never seem to want to accept them as a valid means of support, even when only used as bracing to a steel frame. Mike
