  1. Somebody will probably go get it. Saw a programme on discovery (I think?) about a bloke who was sent out to that neck of the woods to find a P38 for somebody who wanted to restore one. They found one but was in a real bad state. Not to forget the P38 "Glacier Gal" which they pulled out of the glacier in Greenland and rebuilt to fly again. Mike
  2. Have one of those for mine works fine in the car. No good in the Land Rover though for 3 reasons, in my case No radip No cigarette lighter 24 volt Mind you being a S3 I wouldn't hear it anyway. Mike
  3. Clive Programme entry 10 sec does just play the intro, can't really see the point unless you decide to play "name that tune" It is basically a USB 1.1 device which puts the limit on size and speed of USB drives that can be used. As such this is what prevents some of the newer ones working. If you have a larger drive you may find it works but it will not register its full size. This also happens with digital cameras and memory cards, some will not recognise the card, or only part of it because the inbuild technology was limited to that available at the time. As this is a 24v radio they are probably not pushing the technology barrriers as it is a much smaller market. Older technology keeps the price down. Mike
  4. Clive You should be able to do all that. Page 3 Buttons 6 & 7 select previous and next track (does what it says on the tin) Button 11 - MP3 repeat play - does what it says repeats Button 12 - MP3 Random play - randomly selects from the whole USB stick Button 13 - MP3 folder back - next album Button 14 - MP3 folder ahead - next album Being computer technology each album is stored as a different folder. You have the chance to make your own folders containing your favourite tracks. Note will only accept 8GB memory sticks with max 500 tracks and/or 30 folders/albums for best performance Mike
  5. That looks good. Glad to see you now have it. Bet the delivery bloke loved your road and what you done with the rest of the line up? The areas looking a bit clearer than in December. Mike
  6. That is very nice. Not very accurate though, the build quality was never that good on the real thing:) Does it come with the puddle of oil? Mike
  7. Not a bad idea. Some of these maybe useful. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/full-size-male-mannequin-ideal-costume-helmet-/230581957255?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35afc17287 You could go complete get up then, trouser boots, webbing weapons and give the complete picture. Mike
  8. Had an issue with uploading photos had two fails One was on size. Yet I managed to upload a slightly larger one. the other was to fo with resolution/image size. It was a scanned photo which had a strange size. I assumed it was just a bad day Will make full notes if it occurs again. Generally I do not have any problems as I resize images to either 900 or 1200 (pixels) on the longest length with proportions maintained. I then save as a jpeg with a size between 0.5 and 1mb. Use Photoshop Elements. This example was saved down to 1200(x800) with a file size of 520kb. Perfectly fine for viewing. The upload also seems to down size it further as it appears as 172.6 kb in the attachment manager. (This could be where the issue occurs as it probably can only handle certain sizes. Straight from the camera this was a 10.2 mb jpg file. Mike
  9. Welcome in Nice little project that. Please tell us more with loads of pictures. Mike
  10. I have assumed you are refering to the everyday run of the mill truck. So if you had a 2 axle tractor unit and 3 axle trailer what would the un-laiden weight be roughly, what could it carry ? No idea on umladen weight would depend on tractor and trailer. (Never hand to design for unladen) Max fully laden weight would be 40,000 KG (dependant upon wheels/tyres etc). The load on the drive axle cannot exceeed 11,500 KG What about a 3 axle tractor unit and 3 axle trailer what would the un-laiden weight be roughly and what could it carry ? No idea on umladen weight would depend on tractor and trailer. Max fully laden weight would be 44,000 KG (dependant upon wheels/tyres etc). Is there a max length for a trailer ? Max artic length is 16.5m (tractor and trailer) MAx trailer length is 12.2m from the kingpin (5th wheel) STGO with rear steer can be longer. Have recently looked at turning room for a 26m o/a length. Is there a max height of load, obviously to miss bridges but what is it ? In the UK their is no height restriction but you may need to check your route very carefully. You have not gone and bought a boat, I belive there was a surplus aircraft carrier down your way. Mike
  11. Do you want the simple answer or the complicated one. It all depends on the number of axles and a few other factors Non driven axles are 10,000 KG Driven axles generally 11,500 KG 5 axle tractor trailer combination 40,000 KG 6 axle tractor trailer combination 41,000 or 44,000 KG (not sure why 2) CAn go more but then you are into specialist stuff and even more pound signs flash before your eyes. More info here http://www.roadtransport.com/roadlegal/11947/weghts-dimentions-plating.html Mike
  12. Use my friendly local newsagent. He has better selection than Smiths (across road). If he ain't got it he will quickly make sure he does. Mike
  13. Starter motor, washer motor, wiper motor. You may also find you need to change some of the guages. (At least they are different on a S3). Mike
  14. I know I really need to pull it off. Probably order some gaskets and stuff (torque wrench as old one is not working correctly) and have a look when weather gets better. Got to renew MOT next month Mike
  15. Should really pull the head, as I am sure valve stem oil seals are shot. But it runs quite well so am loathed to do it, in case it don't work any more. Mike PS Thanks for the kind comments helps me keep up the work as I find more and more things to do.
  16. Bit more done in my attempt to get back to how it was meant to be. Dexion racking for radio gear has been acquired, stripped, painted and installed. Remaining durbar liner plate removed from the rear. Not to bas undernearth, loads of flaking paint, some dirt and all the bolts still in place for the radio battery frame. So somebody unbolted them removed the frame and put them back. They then removed the load runner strips and fitted the liner panel. Explains the gaps, the self tap screws that only went into the liner and the extra rattle it created on bumps. Next step clean and paint rear tub amd sort out fuel tanks all inbetween redoing the garden, walls and all. Mike
  17. 2 of those were Lancaster !! which had the Hercules radial so if he has remains of a Merlin it would rule those out. Mind you locations given do not seem to tie in with your location. MIke
  18. I am atleast. Makes interesting reading as a 109 "4V 90amp owner just in case I have a problem. Better not offer any advise as I would only be wrong, not very good with electrics when it comes to volts and amps. Better to leave you in the capable hands of Clive. Mike
  19. I do have an attic monster but it seems to be very keen on jigsaw puzzles and there are plenty to keep it occupied. Mike

I would also ask for compensation as it was only supposed to work back then. Keep up the posts they are very enjoyable. Mike
  21. Excellent news in one way but not another. The good news is it gives you ammunition. The bad news is Clay has a tendency to shrink when water is removed, trees like water. Leylandi and other conifers have deep routes that do not spread as far as decidous trees. If the clay dries out and shrinks it can cause subsidence in the foundations. IIRC to comply wirth NHBC quite lines strip foundations in clay 9ft from a row of Leylandi would need to be in excess of 2 metres deep. As the trees like water a drain of any sort is a good source. Roots will fint their way in through the pipe joints. Once in they grow PDQ with the resultant problems associated with a pipe full of roots. These can be cut out and the pipes lined if not to badly damaged. Otherwise its dig up and replace. As the trees belong to the land lord he would be liable for these costs. Although if you have the problems it is still no consulation for you as you still get the agro. Mike
  22. Should have guessed they would charge and has got worse in the recent months. Have to deal with the odd LA department for work and until 6 months ago one highway department would answer questions all of a sudden a charge came up. Not per enquiry but £30 per question. May be worth a visit to yout Citzens Advice Bureau as they can generally provide you with some good advice and even draft letters. Looks like you will need to write several letters, tenant, agent. absentee landlord. Give them a specific time limit to do something or you will seek LA assistance to remove them and recover you expenses via the small claims court. Just because the landlord does not want to spend any money is not an excuse, after all it is in his interest. If the trees cause damage to your property he is liable for all repairs. How close are they to your house? and are you on clay soils? Mike
  23. Could probably find a way of playing Tank Battle by internet as squares are numbered and stuff so it would be a bit like chess. Mike
  24. Thats right it was originally started pn a rolling basis so that when a vehicle became 25 years old it became free road tax. IIRC this stopped in 1998 makiny anything built prior to Jan 1 1973 the cut off date. There was a reason but that is a forbidden subject. Mike
  25. They would have been somewhere around around mid 70's Always seemed to look after stuff when I was a kid, parents were never well off. Mind you always used to be able to have fun with sticks and chalk "hand grenades" and never fell out of that many trees. Mike
