  1. Further to my previous post and out of total curiosity, do you know the actual location of the incident? Mike
  2. Very interesting. Had to borrow the pictures as working in the building industry we come across people who seem to think UXO/UXB are not something to worry about Mike
  3. Nice pictures thanks for posting. It is good to see pictures from peoples collections. So much must be lost through people thinking they are worthless and binning them. At least with film there was a phusical item that helped preserve them.So I cannot help but think about the amount of "history" that will be lost, so much easier, with digital images. Mike
  4. Would not have been the Environment Agency as they did not exist before 1996. Prior to that they were the NRA (National Rivers Authority) but they only existed from 1989. Prior to that we had Regional Water Authorities from 1975 Before that we had River Boards from 1948. So your Matador predates those and must have had an interesting career. Mike
  5. Just read some of that and luckily I would be exempt as it applies to vehicles that exceed 25 kph. So should be safe with a Series 3 Land Rover:laugh: Seriously though I doubt it would be enforceable. Would require a load of court cases to resolve a modification. Is a replacement exhaust (non OEM) a modification, what about tyres etc Mike
  6. I would work on the lines that the vehicle/jeep in question had to have been specifically owned/operated by the military. The actual manufacturing spec does not really come into it, unless you refer to purpose built/designed military vehicles. Anything else would be a replica or a figment of the imagination. Suppose you could get away with military spec (prototype/demonstrator) Mike
  7. I always thought the postal jeeps were the later model with curves on the bonnet/grille are. Mind you should have paid more attention to the one with a hard top on it, mind you it was half hidden in somebodies property. Now that would be an interesting story, from Spain to the end of a road to nowhere in Alaska. Mike
  8. Thanks for. Suspect civvy jeep as has WILLYS stamped into the side of the bonnet and don't remember that on any mil omes Ie seen. Mike
  9. I use AVG on mine. We use the paid up AVG at work as our IT guru's have less problems with that than they ever had with Norton. Used to have Norton on my laptop but it would take about half an hour to boot up. AVG cured it. You meed to make sure you only have one Anti-virus program as they will fight with each other. Mike
  10. Recently returned from missing the Olympics by going to Alaska. Seems that there are a few MV's lurking in and out of the undergrowth out there, along with may other interesting old vehicles. Could not get pictures of everything as most were seen in passing or were off the road on private property. So sorry no pictures of the weasel spotted on the Denali Highway or the Lightweight Land Rover heading up towards the Hetcher Pass. Mot sure if the Jeep was ex-mil or civvy original, but was the better of about 6 that were lurking in one area. No idea what the others are exactly as not that good with US stuff, but mo doubt somebody knows. Mike PS: The Mercedes is for interest only as was actually German registered.
  11. Making great progress. Enjoying seeing it comeback together. Like the workshop, I have to make do with the garage, 2.5m x 6m. Living at home was better a very large single garage and a kitchen. A sympathetic mother helped (mind you I think she had given in) carb rebuild on the kitchen table, chain grease heating on the cooker. Mike
  12. Is letting Jack drive it a good idea:shocked: Mike
  13. Yes I get that add as well, must be targeted. However is some common sense starting to prevail? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-19242245 Mike
  14. Cannot see the point, it is either ex-military or not and doubt if it makes much difference to premiums. Most classic premiums are relatively cheap regardless of what the vehicle is. You can even get cheap insurance on "non-classics" dependent upon usage and age and where you live etc etc. Cannot see the point in lying it will only cost you in the long run. Mike
  15. The LEZ only applies to diesel vehicles built after 1 January 1973 and classed as commercial. So you should be OK with those 2 but you might struggle with a Landrover 110 diesel. Mike
  16. Surely not. It must be The Hitchiker's Guide Surely the best as it is a trilogy in five parts. Mike
  17. Lives at Duxford and displaying at Sunderland this weekend. I am heading down to Bournemouth at the begining of Sept for the display there. They are planning on landing it. Mike
  18. Depends on the age of the picture, possibly country of origin http://www.salshuel.co.uk/cdur.htm Mike
  19. Neil Not sure what would happen with diesel but you could try something like this that would run with a cordless drill. http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cpp3000-drill-powered-water-pump Mike
  20. Agree with the above. My first step would be to bypass the IR switch. You have 4 wired here. Basically the Brown and the Blue/pink one can be disconnected and tapped off. You do not need them. The Ble/black wire from the 6 way needs to be connected straight to the Bloe one which is th headlight supply to the steering wheel switch for main/dip. The beam flash is a seperate supply. There is a wiring diagram on the site for a vehicle with the IR switch removed. http://www.land-rover-lightweight.co.uk/Images/Electrical/ImageMineNew.jpg Mike
  21. Is that like yellow snow. I was taught to avoid yellow snow. Mike
  22. Yes I know people who were prevented from photographing buildings in London on anti-terroism ground. Yet Google did the whole country. IIRC if you hire somebody for photographic purposes you need a model release document in order to use the pictures commercially Mike
  23. You do of course have the right to return for refund or what ever under the trade description act as the item was not as described. Given the facts they might want to do a deal. If you do not ask you do not get. However what is the correct price for a matchng numbers item in the same condition? Most importantly you have to be happy that what you paid and what you got (for your purpose) is right. Not an expert in anyway on weapons/deacts but I may need one one day for my Landy, but low on the list. So best to learn what you can. Mike
  24. Just imagine their expression if they came back and found it impersonating a hedgehog. Yes I find them very helpful when it comes to assisting with the avoidance of paperwork. No need to write a ticket for obstructing the public highway. Probably got one afterwards for parking on the pavement:-D Imagine the paperwork if it had been turned into a hedgehog. Mike
  25. Leave it for 20 years that should do the trick. Seriously you will probably get some assistance from the modelling fraternity on here. They seem to be very good at doing it on a small scale. Mike
