  1. Also which Toureg, Petrol or diesel could it be the V10 ! The V10 will surely have the pulling power.
  2. Still waiting on sodding bearings!!! I was quoted £120 each for the lower swivel bearing!!! Rather than stare at the hub in despair I decided to check out the brake actuator and, yes the diaphragms are perished. So now I need to service all the actuators, fairly easy and not expensive for a change. (I hope). Getting to know my truck, bit by bit.
  3. Yes please,.. way up north, but to include all ex. mil vehicles. Or the rest of us will be in the "were not there" crowd.:-D Cant wait to see more, cant beleive it actually happened. You lucky lot!! Well done Jack +Co.
  4. This rings a bell from way back. I sold my lightweight on about 14 years ago or so and I remember just this problem. I think the advice at the time was that they can be a bitch to bleed! so not necessarily any component at fault. I think I just persisted at bleeding untill it was right, using the technique from the book! Wish I could be of more help. Iain
  5. I am having to hold on till I find some lower swivel bearings, so I had a look at the steering ball joint. I stripped it down and inspected the parts. They all looked ok except for the broken spring and when assembled on the bench were a tight fit. So replaced the spring and re-fitted and all seems ok now? I had a feeling they had not been assembled properly before but it was not obvious when removing. Next pic is the o/s lower swivel bearing!..... Followed by Baxter inspecting the hub parts... needs a bigger hammer!
  6. Many thanks Mike, just what I needed to know. Only info I had was to pack the back of the hub before assembly. I had spotted the plug and grease point but no mention in the service schedule! will have another look.:thanx: Iain
  7. Cheers Mike. Hopefully I will be putting it toghether in the next few days, it looks as you describe and I am sure it will be fun. I will have a go at the steering rod once the hubs are stripped. Hope it improves the steering!
  8. So far, not so good! I have stripped down the o/s hub to find the swivel bearings also shot. The grease was dried up like clay and all the bearings are well gone. I have the main bearings and am getting the swivel bearings except that the lower set are an odd size (1.625 x 3.875 x 1.219). I made a big mistake by letting the wheel fall flat on the ground and hugely underestimated the weight of it, oops! Will take some pics tomorrow as I am going to strip and prep both hubs. Iain
  9. I am just going to go for it! I have the manual for a Mk3 GS truck and the axle seems the same. Does not mention changing wheel bearings as a job but describes a hub removal/fit, and it looks like the hub is greased packed, not 100% sure but got to get it done. Need to be at Castle Frazer tomorrow.
  10. A couple of years ago I had some of these. I contacted the local CID and was told it was a scam of course. But also, a cheque could be deemed as cleared by the bank and later found to be stolen/lost, then the money would then be removed from your account! Scary
  11. Hi all I need to change the front wheel bearings on my Milly 3 wrecker. Has anyone done this? Do I need to strip the swivel housing from the axel? and how is it lubed, is it by axel oil or grease packing? Any special tools required? Also need to fix the swivel pin on the steering hyd. ram that connects to the hub arm, it is slopy! how is this done? is there a kit? Lots of questions I know but any advice appreciated. Cheers Iain
  12. Try this thread http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?17778-Towing-a-casualty&highlight=recovery
  13. WOW!!!! What happened to the consultation process? I thought it was not going to be actioned untill next year after "due process". We have had no feedback on the outcome of the consultations!
  14. The ones I remember were in excellent "factory fresh" condition, certainly did not look rough in any way.
  15. Can always be removed, and as has been stated the hook on type are easily removed for those times it would look out of place... I suppose its one of those things, when you have a vehicle that does not require fitment, but having them when driving on the highway may prevent a bent nose! there are arguments both ways.
  16. No prob. Will do it in the morning, need to fire up the other pc etc. Cheers Iain
  17. I recall a picture of a Mk3 Milly recovery lifting the turret of mk5 or 6 cruiser range wreck in Classic Military (July 2002). What better subject for a diorama! ( I mean the Milly of course)
  18. Dont mean to be a soggy squib. But if its for company employees insurance may be an issue. I have done this for business and commercial cover was required! Its ok to take "a group of freinds" on a jolly but all it needs is someone to bump their head and it all goes sour. Just a freindly "heads up", i`m not the H&S police.
  19. I am sure if they are fitted they have to be worn, HGV is not exempt.
  20. Not "O"s,... I said hose...garden hose!!!! (Remembering Ronnie Barker)
  21. Always liked the LMG, just something about it. We had them in the RAF as well as the GPMG and I can remember shooting on Century range at Bisley on a run down. Are any still in service? Also I used to own an "India service" Lee Enfield 7.62, lovely rifle, replaced now by a Browning .270 nice but without the "character" of the Lee Enfield.

Sorry to hear that, I know what its like! Someone once said to me that "women are like apes, dont let go of one branch until they have a good grip on the next".(Still going through the angry stage). Look after yourself and enjoy that bike. I once rebuilt a 1968 Bonnie in my third floor flat and kept it in the flat until I moved! (no engine oil!)
