  1. Gotcha, ..I was thinking of the pics being stored in a seperate file that I access, never thought that deleting from there would remove them from the Forum threads. Now I understand!! "Stupid boy Pike":nut:
  2. What they are on about are the proposed ATFs "AuthorisedTesting Facilities", a three year initiative to bring testing closer to the customer...Quote; ATFs are VOSA authorised sites where statutory heavy vehicle testing can be carried out..by trained VOSA staff. They are hoping to encourage operators and existing "Designated Premises" to invest in ATF status. There is no guarantee that the operators who take on this role will want to take on third-party work ie us. or what the priceing will be! It may work out. Time will tell.
  3. Yes thats what I thought. Jack mentioned needing to go for a bigger server in the future, maybe if we cleared unwanted files ie. pics it would help server capacity. I realise this is not to do with bandwidth but "every little helps".
  4. Try accurate armour, apparently easy to build!! "The model kit is simple to construct but with no compromises on detail and satisfying for both novice and experienced modeller alike." http://www.accurate-armour.com/showaaproducts.cfm?category=20&subcategory=6
  5. Just a thought. I notice that when I upload pictures the previous ones are still there. Is this taking up server room or is it stored on my computer? If they are stored on the server we could have a clear out and free up some server space, does not help with the bandwidth but its a start. (Still ready to to subbscribe to the site!!):???
  6. Hi Nick Looking forward to those pics!
  7. Stealth sat-nav and other comforts, cunningly hidden in an ammo box and removed when not required! THEY wont notice,.......will they?
  8. Hi Dave There are droppers up to at least 10amps output. They are voltage regulated so will charge a battery ok over time. The thing to watch for is that they will not switch to "trickle" or switch off when the battery is charged so you would need to make sure it is not charging too long. Also a large capacity battery may cause the dropper to operate at "max" for a time and get warm! Not sure if it would need any extra regulating when used as a charger, but in theory should be ok. As a bonus you can use your Sat-nav etc. Iain
  9. We pass this generation in the street without a thought, but what they have been through! :saluting:
  10. Hi Dave Try a voltage dropper (or a 24v to 12v split charger), available up to 10amp output. These are commonly used on trucks to power accessories etc. Try your local factor / HGV specialist or "CDC Truck" and "HGV Direct" both online. The split charger is expensive but maybe suits your use, a voltage dropper is cheaper and will do the job but beware of overcharging! Cheers Iain
  11. Hi enginewizard! You really are most welcome. You may find a lot of the info you need already on threads.
  12. Welcome Alec, You will find all the help you can handle here! Iain
  13. I think this has certainly answered my initial question and opened up the bigger world of recovery. It is fascinating to see the complexity of this subject as it relates to the laymen and the professionals among us. It is also very important. It would be fantastic if all the information could be collated and a laymans guide produced? with the usual dissclaimers of course. I would try but I dont have the insight into the professional (complex) side, or the fine detail, or the law .....(i`m just not good enough.) Thanks so far to Mike, Grumpy etc Iain
  14. I can only agree with all the above!!! I am in, but how about an option in the suscription to voluntarily add a bit more for the HMVF? or an aditional subscription for gold and platinum membership with VIP lounge and complimentary single malt etc ( actually I have the start of a thought for a subscription service that could include access tech info, manuals etc, we could contribute to get it going?) I know, also includes more work, cost etc......
  15. I think it is all starting to make sense. In its basic and most simple interpretation( its all I can cope with now). The limitations on towing a casualty to a place of repair or far enough to clear a carriageway, are in effect when the towed vehicle does not comply with C&U regs as a trailer. In situations where the combination is in full compliance ie coupled brakes, lights etc all is well and no (?)limitations apply. I will read this again tommorow and see if it still makes sense! I need more Glenmorangie (cellar 13 does the trick).
  16. Hi I was reading another thread where Fv432 data plates were mentioned. I have the data plate for 00FA45 a MK2/1c type D. I owned it about 4 years ago and filled the plate away. If anyone has this vehicle and wants the plate i`ll post it to you. Iain
  17. Thanks Mike for all your efforts and advice lately. It is a damn nightmare trying to enjoy our vehicles and be sure we are staying within the "letter of the law". Cheers Iain
  18. Yes Mike, but that applies to vehicles used commercially and taxed as recovery vehicles restricted by C&U and taxation class. My own point is about private and historic registered vehicles being used to move another vehicle. Most of us do it from time to time..... Iain
  19. Must say, I have been pulled many times for a roadside check in my work truck and my M1008! in the Aberdeen area. Always polite and helpfull, but I have never failed on anything only a mention to keep a eye on my Chevys rear brake pipes! In Scotland VOSA can not stop you, they need a police presence and maybe this helps calm things? Strangely the team somtimes includes council reps who sniff the cab etc to check for smoking...so they say! Usual things up here are overloaded horse boxes, animal trailers etc and of course red diesel.... Cheers Iain
  20. This really is getting complicated! Huge thanks for time and effort. I have been searching around for info as I have this nagging memory about towed cars being trailers under certain circumstances. Best I can gather so far is that a second vehicle(not necessarily a casualty) on a drawbar to be classed as a trailer, has to comply under EU C&U regs, ie brakes, lights, MAM etc like any other trailer. ie cars being pulled behind motor homes etc. But I have been looking with private vehicles in mind not commercial vehicles limited by taxation class. SORRY Iain
  21. Mike, I understand what you say for a vehicle registered/taxed as a recovery vehicle. But what about a private(historic) vehicle be it a wrecker or a GS truck or a bus, but used to tow another vehicle . It is a situation many of us could find ourselves in and we should by trying to to "do the right thing". Iain
  22. Thanks Mike I was thinking along the lines of. As it is a historic vehicle I can tow an unladen trailer! if another vehicle towed correctly is classed as a trailer I should be OK. All based on towing "correctly" and if I am right about it being classed as trailer. A lot of ifs Iain
  23. This may have been covered before, but with all the talk over the MOT exemptions, c&u regs etc I was thinking of how I would stand if I were to give a vehicle a tow. Such as a freind in need or a roadside emergency, were I just to give someone a tow home as you may with a car! or if I am at a show with a freind and his Pioneer and he needs a tow home! I know a car towing another car properly with lights etc the casualty is classed as a trailer and the relevant rules apply. Is this the same with a truck? My truck is a wrecker and is taxed as historic. Iain
  24. There is also a guy Aldershot way, I dont have his details right now but will try to find them. Also LMC truck in the USA are very good. Most UK based US vehicle specialists should be able to help with the standard bits, i ordered a pitman arm from a dealer in Glasgow it arrived next day from the midlands! The US car specialists operate a network and it seems to work well. If you want any details I can look it out. Cheers iain
