unfortunately some of the drill instructers are sadistic. I did my traing in '86, you would think we were semi civilised by then...... We had 2 dark guys in our platoon and the DS, nicknamed them Toby and Midnight. They used to make them lie at opposite ends of the hall way with their mouths open and the DS used to post golf balls at them.. Some DS get a bit mental, apparently not changed as got a big email from a new recruit last week Memories...........

I think it is hard to convey, but it is still military (Army) doctrine to break you first so that individuals begin to act as a team. Most people would think you could just say sod off but the best way I describe it is that they 'own' you.
6. I think my helper was hiding, and I finally got around to installing the gearstick bootS yes boots, so we have: - transmission tunnel (with nut inserts) - lower boot frame - lower boot - sound/heat blanket - upper boot (same as the lower boot coincidently) - upper boot frame It is very hard to get the screws to line up through this sandwich of bits. Tried double sided tape, different aligning tools i.e. pointy bits. Today bought 12 overlength screws, cut the heads off, aligned everything a piece at a time. Then removed one at a time and tightened each screw, starting beside the corners. very happy to have this hole filled, as a lot less noisey and hot
7. well if we are putting dibs in, can I have this/these for my birthday :cool2: http://www.style-your-garage.com/motive.php?item=10&type=w
8. Well another productive day, whilst my helper was doing mundane tasks like reinstalling, headling and bolting in the rear mesh, I was busy with the mundane also: - fitted an Oil pressure gauge (not wired in yet as waiting on some parts, but looks good) - correctly rewired the tactical light switch (followed the original instalation - not wise here :nut:) - refitted the dash - all lights working :-D in the correct sequence

11. Clansmen????? heaps of them on ebay, was several varient not sure how far back they go
12. Mils .... the military dont use degrees on cmpasses as there is only 360 of them "Most military forces have adopted the French "millieme" system. This is an approximation of a milli-radian (6283 per circle), in which the compass dial is spaced into 6400 units (Sweden uses 6300 ) or "mils" for additional precision when measuring angles, laying artillery, etc. The value to the military is that one mil subtends approximately one metre at a distance of one kilometer"

Originality

yep I agree, completely. Everything has its place or category and I think this fourm is both a good place to delberate those categories and also award them. What we have going on currently: - a ww1 truck getting rebuilt from a chassis - tanks rebuilt from range wrecks - a replica scwimmerwagen copied from a plasic model which are a snippet of what I think is amazing at the moment.
18. welcome "SHALL WE CALL IN THE PROFESSIONALS, OR SCREW IT UP OURSELVES " :-D I think I do most myself as calling in the professional 'if you can find one' the result is a screw up and an invoice. If I screw it up, I just swear a lot, maybe bang my head or dance in a circle depending upon the sevirity of the screw up (but no invoice)

Originality

G'Day Eddy I have to agree with you on that respect, but delving back to the beginning of this thread the question of originality is in relation to vehicles at a military vehicle show. I personally don't care either way in the respect, I doubt my vehicle will end up at a UK show and I wouldn't bother posting on such a mundane subject in that I prefer nuts and bolts to political subjects. But what I find strange is there is no clear guidelines. I truly believe if guidelines wanted to be set this HMVF fourm would be the place to do it and just to make life more dificult for our admin/mods at the end of the year we could have, in the fourm: - best restoration - best replica - best theatre specific vehicle - best modified vehicle I don't know the titles, just seems way to many posts on this issue that I think can be easilly defined and HMVF can set the benchmark. I say the HMVF community as I would say there is more people in here than would go to say W&P
