1. Just downloading the clip(takes ages here) interesting statistic of 390 per day.... US sent 553,000 if wikipedia is to believed would be average age of vetrens be 64-66?? Disgusting: - the vetrens were ignored for decades even by ex service leagues (in Australia it was deemed a police action same as the Korean vetrens) - the military never lost the war the politicians and the media lost the war With a bit more of a spit or rant on the Western system, we have the UN which name should be changed to UM because UM is what dumb people say when they cant think of an answer P.S nice helicopter
2. I would have to agree that mainly cost is the primary issue Also the supplier as if it was a bid contract vehicle A might have a more flashy paintjob than vehicle B and no-one could argue that military procurement is not full of ill informed choices. I would love to be an auditor of military procurement  Of interest in Australia, all the Army's base vehicles, staff cars, light trucks, utes etc were all painted green. Finally someone woke up that if you got standard coloured vehicles for REMF duties that they: - were cheaper to buy - easier to sell (given bought tax free in the first place) We used to wipe mud on the vehicles prior to fancy paint
3. Best Person perhaps is Rogan on the Lightweight forum, but are very hard to find, if any are around, he would know http://www.lightweightlandroverclub.org/phpbb/index.php

Aussies are just never serious..... This is my band of colonials a 'few' years back
5. I suppose I should address the common problem of drooping or failure to spring up :cheesy: The Pinz has sliding windows and the locks need to spring upwards to work. Parts manual don't show how or what so...... found out it was a really long allen screw... took ages to get out as can only turn 1/4 turn. Anyway dropped a pill under the spring and now rock firm (3 to go)
6. having a bit more dig around the box and the bits in the back
7. The sand coloured one was on ebay ages back..... these are Recce Lightweights Quite rare and often argued 'originality' but there is a guy on the Lightweight forum rebuilding one.
8. Working on the mate's one today Often the keys don't match the doors but this time I photographed the solution . Main reason I post here is: - there is so little info out there on deisel Pinz - and some people that know anything keep it all a 'big' secret Maybe useful on other cars also Take the lock barrel out Seen here are the tumblers (note itty bitty spring, don't loose them) If wrong key the tumblers are sticking out eg key wont turn So swap the high ones with the low ones and swap them from side to side etc. A bit like a Rubrick's cube puzzle so good for those procrastination toilet visits Apparently you can get it perfect eventually...... but I get it damn close and skim a couple of thou of with a file Done :-D Next week will be how to pick locks and defeat padlocks :cool2:

G'Day Ray "assume the worst", ?? Is that Gordon Brown get's re-elected?? Sorry we Aussies have to start with a quip at every oppurtunity . But seriously you are not bothering anyone, at 73 your a spring chicken and don't go getting crook on us. To be honest I think all ex-military people get sentimental about their service days as you never have such cameradre "mates" outside the military world, something to do with facing a challenge and overcoming it as a team. Yes there was some imbeciles but on whole the ratio of good versus bad people was much better in the military (i.e. more enlisted than officers :-D:nut::cool2:). Last week I was in an RSL in Townsville Australia and a Korean war veteran, won $180 dollars on keno so he bought a round of drinks for us. He insisted, as we kept telling him to kep his cash and we should be buying him a beer, not the other way round. After a few hours I finally managed to buy him back a pint as he wouldn't let us.
11. This shows our improvised aircon in action and have to be athletic to get in, the whine of the portal axles and the whistling of the turbo = noisey

Look more military also Also did my road trip today to the junk yards...(that I will post after I am washed up, 2.5 hours up, 2 back no aircon "hence the non mil spec fans" and covered in filth from boxes) and some sneak peaks of missile testing gear (I am told my box is a missile test workshop)
15. Well arrived back from a 12 hour flight and after a quick snooze prepped the Pinz for tomorrows junkyard trip. Whilst away my workshop box arrived and is full of missile repair parts :cool2: (amazing customs didn't wonder)

17. What does a Ferret fueltank look likei.e. anyone got a photo?
18. Finally a bit more 'pimping' with some touch ups and stencils Off on another trip, so hopefully some other tidy ups will get done this week.
19. Also 'pimped' my jack..... the intent was a quick wipe with thinners and paint but the thinners took the primer off also So a coat of Hammerite olive drab. Have to admit not a fan of Hammerite but the green went on ok I mean this was a necesscity as imagine the embarassment of having a flat tyre in an Army truck and only having a blue jack :red:
20. The missus wash my hair when I got home, that why I call her special :-D Well today ripped the glove box out to remount the air compressor switch and to tidy up the wiring for the new winch solenoid internal location. Also put the tactical signs on for the photo (I believe I was the only guy that got a set as most were painted on or destroyed). I am told the Aussie Army have completely stopped this as switched to the khaki boots. I would have thought they would have keept it for recruit training though but I guess that means an extra pair of boots. Spit polish was a huge problem in Australia because when hot it just melts off. So a trick was, after recruits was to use a small brush and paint your boots in gloss black paint. Some used spray paint, but I liked the small brush as less likely to crack. Only problem was in the Aussie heat your boots don't beathe so your feet get toasty during those really long parades, when politicians used to like to ramble on etc.. Keep it up Ray, you are reminding me of (can't say fun times) but perhaps the best achievement wise
