Originality

so again that should be a rule? e.g. someone has a piece of kit and does it up as a perfect example or desert storm for what ever reason, maybe: - he likes light stone colour - maybe a desert storm example doesnt exist I dont know, to me this is a vehicle someone spent a lot of time on, may not be original but as you said "Historically Correct for the period being portrayed" should be an award I just can't understand why there isn't a clear set of guidelines or code of practice. It don't affect me as if I left my Pinzgauer original it would be barely running and maintainence would be contracted out to idiots with no brains. From what I have seen of this forum there is a huge variety of people and has won awards for the betterment of historic vehicles. So I bet my left testicle a set of guidelines could be easily be developed and printed in the magazine.

Originality

Curiosity killed the cat again I guess so I have to comment into this 'arguement' again. I say arguement as the viewpoints can be somewhat polarised from one another. My curiousity is that at these vehicular shows, dont they have categories clearly defined as what is what? I am guess from these threads, not? I can see both sides of the arguments as both are 'sides' eg originality is: - factory built - as per the book or CES - as per the crew modded it - even a replica (some people have built exact replicas) I guess this is the main problem that at a show the rules should be clear as what is what. Also I guess you don't ant a pink Light Weight, with Barbire painted on it at a military show. But on the other side if you want uber 'original' one can always buy a Land Rover from Withams that has been half destroyed by a land mine as original from service. I tend to think most people want though to fix a vehicle, use it instead of towing a burnt out wreck from show to show. So I guess what I am saying is why isn't originality clearly defined by the show circuit, at varying degrees? Isn't classic 25 years and vintage 50 years or something simple like that?
3. Man, fixed wing pilots always get it wrong........ most the time 25% of the blades are going faster than you, 25% is going slower and the other 50% around the same speed. Thats why it's unsafe oops complicated :cool2:
4. My wife just don't know, I tell her the roof hatch is the passenger side sun roof  She helped hand paint the lightweight and could sleep in it whilst running which I thought was quite an achievement. She come to the junkyards....... another trip this weekend (yes I know I'm a softie) Now I say on Saturdays "should we lie in and cuddle or should I go tinker with my truck?" and she brings me my coveralls and says "see you when you get home, honey"
5. Took the vehicle on a shake up run, looking for rattles etc, then had to rush home so now have it in the 'visitor' bay Still got work to do so back to the yard tomorrow
6. Don't they use Hammel guns? Interesting looks like an RB44 towing it
7. At least I didn't post a photo :-D
8. Is it off topic to ask where to get those mushrooms from? Anyway Clive will come in soon as I read his paint book and he will tell me its quail egg or something - plus where to get the mushrooms from

11. Vehicle related Laws Law of Mechanical Repair - After your hands become coated with grease, your nose will begin to itch & you'll have to pee. Law of Gravity - Any tool, nut, bolt, screw, when dropped, will roll to the least accessible corner. Law of Probability -The probability of being watched is directly proportional to the stupidity of your act. Law of the Bath - When the body is fully immersed in water, the telephone rings. Law of the Result - When you try to prove to someone that a machine won't work, it will. Law of Biomechanics - The severity of the itch is inversely proportional to the reach Law of Logical Argument - Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about
12. Nothing done last weekend as came back from Phuket with a dose of the flu  Yesterday was a fairly big day as: - got the radiator, front panels and brush guard all back on. - all the engine covers are back on (although next month is timing belt change time) - seats back in - transmission cover back on - fixed the aircleaner retaining straps (very annoyed as I took a photograph of the mess I started with but not the result i.e. I was well happy that I managed to fix it) So after all that went for a spin to heat it up and look for coolant leaks, seemed ok. Did find some loose wheel nuts :-\ But do get some odd looks driving around the streets in it as it does make a peculiar whine (which is normal) when it gets going, the turbo has a distinct whistle and it's just an odd vehicle. Still much to do but a lot of it is because I want to instead of need to.
13. I was looking at a display in the Fremantle museum and it showed a steel cannon brought up in the early days, before all the science and another one brought up with the science. The original one, once out of the water continued falling apart, the newer one they keep sumbmersed a lot longer and did magic tricks and it came out fairly pristinge. I know a fair bit about different corrosion damage mechanisms but not sure what is going on in that once out of the water it deterioates quicker. I can only assume the metallic structure becomes completely polarised under the water and kind of stabilises it with the lesser oxygen. Once out of the water, lots of oxygen it goes off like a sherbet bomb (the phd's are going to be shaking their heads at my rough guess). Also saw a video of the USS Arizona survey and they mention certain chambers less oxygen, less damage. Pity it's 93 mb (just checked). Interesting part was finding a set of trousers still on the hanger in the cupboard
14. cripes I thought by the the tread title we were getting spam email  A heater and comfy seats :cool2:! I must be softer as I'm chasing aircon and an automatic gearbox
15. I dont know that just dont look right: - nobody realy cares - the breach didn't appear shut - who pulled the lanyard - goes against and artillery training I ever seen in that the hand pushing the round in should always be a fist with no fingers protruding. The idea is the breech closing don't cut your fingers off
16. was just something that turned up in a weird search. I'll have to dig around ebay and see if the books availble now
17. yep G wagen Rims............. I am still pining for the Hutchison rims I ordered but disappeared My guess is the box should get here mid March, then I have to remove the rear body off this one which is not easy as it is supposed to be bolted together but many of the bolt holes are plug welded...................... still got to find an auto, intercooler, P93 front frame, p93 grille, military aircon, +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ and more
18. this still there?? http://www.submerged.co.uk/slapton.php was digging around the web and thought it was an interesting story
19. Has been a bit of a drag as with the radiator out, it's not running. Yep just run on dirty old water. The main battle has been dealing with neglect, i.e. nails instead of split pins, reinstalled incorrectly, missing parts as too hard to put in the last screw. Lucky we have 4 in the yard as sometimes not so easy to spot unless you notice something different on another vehicle. This is a picture of the fuse panel in 2 different vehicles. One is behind and one is half behind half in front... hard to spot, but as with most things, one way it works, one it doesn't. Off to Phuket, Thailand today, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for any army green stuff.
20. Well spent an entire day fitting 4 radiator hoses and 3 new stainless pipes :-( Sometimes these things can be difficult as people may noticed I have not replaced the lower pipe with stainless yet...... the reason being I have to remove the front fram to replace it :wow: couple of other minor bits done i.e. fitting new gear linkage, LHS door step and these pretty red terminal covers which I got of ebay and was lucky they are the correct size :-D
21. if it has a 13 digit NSN number it is after 1975 before 1975 it would have a 11 digit FSN number http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_Stock_Number
22. i had to look it up as just didn't sound right..... based upon my dim memory those 2 digits are the codification numbers which is the country first to codify the item. for example, US is 00 and 01, Japan 30, Saudi Arabia 70, the UK is 99
23. not sure the capacity as the owners manual and plating can be a bit bizzare. eg my 4x4 has a vin plate i think with 5000kg on it, which caused mass confusion with licensing but it is plated as towing weight not laden. One of my owners manuals state values and another one says refer to the body plate
