7. Damn, I initially thought it was a film prop but from the turret down it looked too solidly made. I'll have to trawl around in this French site some more and see if can find something harder. Mind you, it's not much but what about the green bit in the bottom right of this picture? Its amphibious

15. I wonder why they would want to charge more....... maybe not a common used colour anymore? Hope youre up and running for ANZAC Day :-D
16. Would be interesting to see a rebuild thread
17. I would think our master craftsmen here are used to what they are used to. Also it most likely fits with the vehicle period as arc processes were developed during the second war. I could never argue that a brazing technique was stronger than an arc or friction process as for every problem listed there are solutions. Interestingly enough sil brazing was still being used for high pressure piping in submarines up until early 60's. I always remember that as it cost the lives of 129 men
18. I think I need to visit a shrink as in my ongoing efforts to stimulate the European and UK economies I have gone and purchased this Acmat TPK4-20-SM3. The missus was very understanding and said that looks nice (not sure if this is a test!) Payment done and awaiting delivery to a mates workshop in the UK. Going to be a fairly slow thread, as first stage is to find/deliver the few missing body parts which are LH fuel tank (found), rear tailgate (found), front bumper jerry can holder (found), front bumper toolbox, rear canvas hoops and RH spare wheel mount. Chasing the body parts first as I am planning on doing the paint job during my next visit to the UK. After I acquire the missing bits I can look at the mechanical parts which were apparently all done 4 years ago so hopefully it should not be so painful. Not very easy to find information on these so much thanks to protacman for his thread, help and advice (http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?692-ACMAT-VLRA-4-20-SM&highlight=acmat). Also have found two French owners that are helpful, especially in improving my French speaking skills.
19. I seen on another site in Aus they have a thread for forum courier services. It lists: - courier companies, forum members recommend - and forum members going on a trip can advise and deliver stuff
20. That is an interesting point as often the hardest part is determining the cause and in if it is in some industries you have to find the exact cause. There is a bit of give and take as older stuff generally ran at lower speeds, with lower cyclic loading. On the other hand older materials were generally of a lower quality. Newer stuff is engineered with much less margin for error as the materials are better, the QA/QC is better and the fabrication is to a higher standard but can operate at much higher cyclic loads. The odd thing about this statement is that it was perhaps a correct statement 20 years ago, but much manufacturing has moved from the original areas to areas where materials, QA/QC and fabrication are all poorer. that's an easier way :-D:-D:-D
21. Fatigue was not really understood until post war and the Comet investigations. Interestingly enough the UK standards on this damage mechanisms are the world leading ones. I would be interesting to see the other clutch as to see if it was cracked the same as I doubt the balancine and maching would of been much different at the time. Old stuff is generally over engineered and can take a lot more damage with newer material and less material a half a thou crack becomes critical.
22. can you find any gil measures on the sides? maybe the RAF made them as the Navy boys were already sloshed Kinda makes you feel ripped of as a full shot at the pub aint that big
23. Bizaire, I just run a search, doubting I would find anyting, but Measuring Cup - sealed & dated 1945 certified 1½ gill. Stamped Dunnetts with ministry broad arrow. We are told that this was used for issuing Royal Navy Rum rations. http://www.oldnautibits.com/search/search_results.php?search_string=air+ministry+bell
