  2. Found another good picture, i think it featured in Pat Wares Warehouse Datafile book on the Diamond T 980/981 but it was very small in the book. Managed to find a bigger one on the net. Would this not be an awesome rig to hit the show circuit with? Richard

  4. Ah right, thats interesting, thanks Iain. At the weekend we brought the engine back to our workshop from the barn where the rest of vehicle is located, ready for rebuild. So thats my christmas holiday sorted Richard
  5. Hi Jim, I remember you saying in Belgium that the lack of gears could be a problem. There was an article i think in Wheels and Tracks some time ago, that showed Macks being used by the Ministry of Supply after the war to deliver new Centurions. Presumably they just did it painfully slowly staying in low gears. Shes looking good tho. Richard
  6. I'm making a stainless exhaust silencer for our Scammell, and i'm wondering if anyone can explain the rather peculiar design of the original. Take a look at my photo below, i've cut the cylinder of the original circumfrencially and theres another cylinder inside about 1/2" smaller. The inner one is flanged on the ends and appears to be just be a tight fit on the inside of the ends. Can anyone suggest a reason for the two skins? Do i need to copy this in my stainless version?   8. Half of mine is at home at the moment, due to the gearbox rebuild, so i'll get some pics at the weekend and post. I believe the Pioneer ones were segments of rubber held in by plates and bolts, whereas the Explorer ones are alternating segments of rubber and aluminium actually bonded together, maybe hot vulcanised.   10. Those metalastic couplings are rare as hens teeth. I think some people have tried moulding the rubber bits new, but not sure how succesfully. Richard

  12. Gearbox finally finished Also finally got the drop arm off the steering box with help from fellow HMVFer Hippotastic, and stripped the rest of the box down, cleaned up and started reassembly. Photo below shows the cork seal i made for the rocker shaft in position. Unfortunatly one of the thrust washers that the cam follower bears against was totally u/s so i'm having a new one made by a friend. Strangly the other one was almost as new.
  13. Just noticed something else. Where most of the battery wiring is drawn in bold, the wires between the starter and slave socket are not. Will rectify this in my re-draw. Richard

  15. if you removed the oil filler neck would that give you sufficient access to put a small centre punch or premanent marker on two adjoining teeth, one on the timing gear and one on the pump gear, thereby recording their orientation with one another. Richard
  16. Indeed. I thought for a minute they might be M6s but i don't think so, so M4 it is. Richard
  17. I think you'll have to be very lucky to find a silencer, unless you can find a vehicle that is being broken up. I know of one possibility which i'll enquire, but i think its all gone now. I'm making a stainless one for ours. I have the complete workshop and drivers manuals in pdf format. If you want me to email or burn them onto a CD and send PM me. Richard

  23. Pressing main prop back together. Have also refitted the second side gear case to the rear axle, and the gearbox is nearly done just needing painting now. Richard
