  1. Hey mark, looks like you've found a couple potential goers there. Shame most of the original body work is missing, but the red one behind looks like an M6 too but i'm a bit unsure about the area in front of the diff / steering unit / final drive area, doesn't quite look right. Maybe its been chopped about. I have heard of another somewhere in the states minus bodywork, maybe this one. The yellow one in MichelK's post certainly looks like a yarder, not much of the original machine left tho. Richard
  2. Have always used Redex in the Jeep with now problems.
  3. Jim, I just in the process of putting the rad from my Scammell back together, and knowing you had yours apart i have a question. I'm presuming you had new rubber gaskets made, but did you use any sort of sealer with them? I'm using a silicone sealant to seal the rubber gaskets and as i do the joint up it seams to push the gasket out, its better since we took it all apart, cleaned it and tried again with less sealer, but is still a problem. Can the joint be expected to seal with no sealant? Have you got any pointers? Cheers, Richard
  4. i can't get bivelle to come up. its just comes up with 4 different "ville"s bloody computers!!
  5. Supertrack, would be nice, but im guessing not. Think you might come anyway? This is the one i was talking about at Falaise
  6. Hey Sean, I've registered on MLU and your photos come up as thumbnails, but when i click on them to try to enlarge them i get a warning saying i don't have the right permissions or something. Any idea what i'm doing wrong? Cheers, Richard
  7. Yeah i guess asking would have been a better bet - maybe next time. Cracking museum though. Get yours ready for A&E 2012 supertrack?
  8. That engine is looking sweeeeet. Hope it runs as good as it looks. Richard
  9. Nigel, oddly that hadn't crossed my mind, but i like your thinking. Yeah we had a peek round the back of the August '44 museum in 2004, didn't realise there was a Panther there though. We didn't get long to look because someone who i can only presume was the owner, caught us poking around and i don't speak much french but i'm pretty sure he wasn't happy. I'll see if i can dig out the photos i got before getting rumbled. Richard
  10. Hi Sean, Welcome to the centre of the universe. Am in the process of registering on MLU so i can check out your resto. Richard
  11. on the D658 going north out of Falaise theres a big supermarket or supermarche on the left. Theres a roundabout on the D658 next to the south-east corner of the supermarket carpark. The tank was on the side of the roundabout between the D658 and D511. That was in 2004. Sound familiar Supertrack? Hows your restoration going? Whereabouts in France are you? I'm going to the Le Man 24hr next year, be good to drop in if its on the way. Richard
  12. While i'm on the subject, i remember when i was in France with the MVT in 2004, in Falaise there was a Sherman set up as a monument in a sand pit at the side of the roundabout off the corner of the supermarket car park. I've recently tried locating it on Google Earth and can't find it. I'm 99% sure i got the location right. Anyone know if it has gone and if so has it gone to a good home? Do the french have any policy of getting rid of these monument tanks? Richard
  13. Damn - thought it sounded too good to be true
  14. Clive, Could you send me a copy aswell please? Email: richard.fryer@sewardwyon.co.uk Thanks in advance, Richard
  15. Nice one. I second recymech66, if i'd seen it you'd have had some competition. Richard
  16. Found the list on the link below, doesn't say how up to date it is but it shows alot of M4A4s on firing ranges in this country. I thought most of the wartime stuff had been removed or was so destroyed its barely recognisable. Anyone throw any light on this? Adrian? http://the.shadock.free.fr/sherman_minutia/data/known_sherman_SNs.html Richard
  17. Been working on the rad. Below is the matrix, tried cleaning all the paint and muck off with a caustic soda solution, but while it cleaned all the muck and dirt up it didn't remove the paint as i had hoped. I'm in the process here of stripping the yellow! hammerite the previous owner had applied to the whole vehicle. Afterwards we steam cleaned the whole thing to remove all the gunk. Below are the header and bottom tanks after blasting and priming, i've had some new rubber gaskets made and am just waiting on some nuts and bolts before putting the whole thing back together and plonking it on the chassis. Richard
  18. I'd forgotten i'd started this thread! Some good leads - thanks Richard
  19. Mike, Good to see some more British stuff coming out of the woodwork. You've certainly got your work cut out there, but i'm sure you'll get there. All the best, Richard
  20. Does anyone know what happened to the Scammell Pioneer tank transporter with the proper trailer that was advertised in the last few issues of Wheels and Tracks? It looked like a mint restoration, i think the asking price started at £40k, came down a bit then it disappeared and haven't heard of it since. Richard
  21. Malcolm, You've taken it apart? When me and dad came to verify the K9 i think you had de-skinned the cab, didn't think you were going to take it aprt. Richard Fryer
  22. I always understood from the period training films for the Pioneer, which i suspect to to be very similar if not indentical in this respect, that the restraint for the scotches consisted of a short length of chain off the scotch and then a length of wire rope finishing in a round eye for hooking over the hook on the chassis. Richard
  23. Damn it!! i was planning on going to Tanks in Town as a spectator next year. I've yet to get the latest mag, do they give any reason for it being the last? I thought it was hugely popular with everyone in Mons for the amount of money it brought in. Richard
  24. Nice one Nige i'll check it out. Richard
