  1. I do agree with the sentiment expressed here. I always feel uncomfortable in ANY military uniform simply because I don't have the right to wear the uniform that brave men wore. I don't feel worthy as I have never fired a shot in anger or indeed been shot at. They were all brave (combat troops) whatever uniform they were wearing and whether they were fighting for a worthy cause or otherwise. About the Waffen SS, they did not possess exclusive rights to atrocities and the regular Wehrmacht behaved with more decency and adhered to the Geneva convention at least as well as us or any of our allies. They didn't systematically rape women....
  2. Yes Jonny, I am with you 100% on this one and it wouldn't be right, balance wise just to have allied forces in attendance because there would be nobody for them to war with !!! I personally have never understood why middle aged British chaps want to dress up as GI's or 101st Airborne soldiers !!! The only reason I can think of is that their uniform is pretty smart....Like the German uniforms ! Maybe this is why we have so many of them both !!!
  3. Thanks for that. I thought I was the only one to experience this phenomenon.
  4. Yes, it has changed my opinion of him ,somewhat in a favourable manner.
  5. I am a lot happier now but I still cannot understand why the Sorn/retax reminder stated that I had to obtain a test for the vehicle by August 8th.....
  6. Lets hope so. It would be a real tragedy if this piece of our national history were to be destroyed. I wasn't even aware of her existance until reading this thread !!! If only I had won the Euro Millions........
  7. When I was a child, our family doctor had been captured by the Japanese and forced to labour on the Burma railway. He hated the Japanese and would NEVER purchase anything with the script 'Made in Japan' on it. When my father bought a Datsun 180B he gave the old man a real bollocking about how evil the Nips were. Goodness knows what pain our lads had to endure at their hands. This was a very intellegent, churchgoing man who could not find it in him to forgive the Japanese nation. I used to travel to Japan three times a year buying cars to import and almost universally I found them to be extremely polite and friendly. It is incredible when you read about the atrocities they committed in the last war which must be the worst of the conflict. The thing that has always amazed me is how the war crimes trials in Japan were so low key compared to the Nazis and how so little of them were put on trial and subsequently punished. To my mind there should have been many more...
  8. The Spad made it to land with half a wing missing... Tough old bird.
  9. Always have a leggy blonde in the centre seat then ...
  10. A great shame indeed. I have been lucky to see the 'Doll in action before and I must admit that there was a tear in the corner of my eye when I heard the news. The most important thing is that no one was hurt or worse still killed. Just goes to prove the reputation of the Skyraider which was legendary in Vietnam. I once read a book about a pilot and his memoirs in action over the skies of south east asia. I wish I could remember the name of it.
  11. It is difficult to explain, but when I bring up the manage attachments box it is not all there. A third of the box on the left hand of the screen is missing!!! I am useless with computers though !!!
  12. My manage attachments box is incomplete !!!
  13. Still having problems uploading pictures.... Good to meet everyone over the weekend. The missus took a shine to Toolman Matt's Ferret so I have a green light to find one.... When the new garage is finished !!!
  14. Right. I am on photobucket now....Next problem. How do I get them from photobucket to HMVF ?????:embarrassed:
  15. I think I need to find a way of getting photobucket downloaded to the forum. I think I will try again tomorrow !!!
  16. I am having problems too. What is photobucket?
  17. Just goes to prove that you can have the finest MBT in the world and it is useless in the hands of muppets....
  18. Is anybody else having trouble uploading pictures ? I have been trying for the last half hour to no avail ???
  19. There was indeed. A thousand thank you's to Stuart who must have put many hours and many gallons of midnight oil in the process of organising it. Hopefully one day we will have an event to equal Beltring in the North and judging by how this one has grown, this could well be it in years to come... Very impressed with all the exhibits, came in the Zil on Saturday and Bernadette on the Sunday. The M18 Hellcats were fantastic to hear and see in particular.
  20. Well, Matt, actually my tickets say that they are for a free lunch. But I surmise that they double as entry tickets.... Stu, could you clarify this? Cheers.
