  1. If I was you I would definately buy one from Withams,Rick.
  2. I think that the Daf is a great little truck. The MK/MJ is a great truck too. As a collectors piece it is obviously more desireable than the Daf. However as a collectors item the RL has more appeal than both of them, in abundance... The Daf is better as a daily driver though and the Cummins engine, 60mph top speed and PAS do it for me. The cross country performance of the Daf is blighted by the crap (off road anyway !) Goodyear G288 tyres. If they were both on all service bargrips there would not be much in it.
  3. I love these boats, especially the Deltic powered one !!!
  4. Looks great. Did you make the window hatches yourself?
  5. Is this the one used in the BBC "Doctor Who and the Sea Devils" TV programme?
  6. How did the MK II SD KFZ222 turn out? Did you take any more pictures of her? I am still contemplating a 1/1 replica 234/2 Puma. I think I have most of the important bits sorted. It has to have independant suspension and the running gear will be sourced from Toyota Hilux pickups, Mk4 front differentials in all 4 axles and transfer boxes from Landcruisers to complete the drivetrain. 4.7 litre engine with automatic trans and Hilux front hub assemblies with custom arms and driveshafts. The hardest part is figuring out the best way of steering 3 axles..... Unless someone knows of a ready made 8x8 chassis to use....
  7. Let us not forget though that the harsh treatment metered out to Germany after the Great war, mostly at France's insistance caused the fall of the democratic Weimar republic and a certain gentleman from Austria to rise to prominance...The Marshall plan was designed to make Germany economically viable and help nurture a democratic system.Keeping German citizens happy must have been considered as being more important than us because we were a safe and stable democratic state. I have to say that it stinks though and with austerity measures allied to rationing into the fifties we must have questioned what we fought for......
  8. Great pictures Tim. It was great to see you and Simon at Saddleworth but unfortunately the other half had made plans to meet up with some of her friends unbeknown to me.... I hope it didn't make me appear unsociable. I have some pics but I am having trouble uploading them as usual.Glad you got a picture of Bernadette because I always forget to take one of her. The event needs to be centralised like years previously though.
  9. Ok then, 9.15 it is if anyone else heading from West Yorkshire wants to join us
  10. Yes I am up for it. Simon needs to know so he can meet in the Militant.
  11. Yes CASA 211s. Licence built Heinkel 111 bombers but-here is the irony, they are powered by hispano suiza licence built MERLIN engines....
  12. In my opinion a Scorpion or a Scimitar or any other variant of CVRT equipped with a revolving turret and gun is by definition a tank... Maybe a light reconnisance tank but a tank nontheless. Escape to victory is bad but so bad that I actually quite like it. Bobby Moore vs the Germans... 1966 all over again!!!
  13. Yes but it did add to the realism....
  14. Just put the telly on and the Battle of Britain is on !!!
  15. Precisely, Tony. But the REAL aircraft combat scenes and musical score and all star cast do it for me. It does make me feel proud to be British and when Dowding (Olivier) walks out on to the terrace at the end and the music changes to a soft string section I do well up, everytime... I do like the portrayal of the Luftwaffe pilots and I have always found them amiable in their portrayal. Some of the more modern films (Spielberg etc) portray them as murderous psychotics but I am sure they were not all like this.
  16. U 571.... Just an insult to the Royal Navy. I can't be bothered to say anymore about it because it doesn't deserve it. Best film for me is the Battle of Britain. I can watch it over and over again. The only bit that annoys me is before the credits there are the ubiquitous M3 half tracks and US SP guns. Oh and Sailor Malan (Robert Shaw)'s House front door .....
  17. Strangely enough, Matilda tanks are one of my favourites (must be the AEC connection) I would love to see another one in working condition.
  18. Yes, Simon. The Sunday is the plan. Timbo, what time and location to meet?
  19. I will find out Simon. Why don't you meet in Huddersfield with the Militant for a Convoy?
  20. I am surprised there was anything left of Alderney if it was pounded by 16" naval guns....
  21. Definately going, wild horses would not keep me from it.... Convoy from Town sounds good. Shame Matt can't come though.... Surely Saddleworth is better than Alderney, Matt !!!!
  22. How did the Americans come to supply Centurions to the Netherlands, Mc Spool ?
