  1. It looks really good and its nice to hear the project is back up and running.
  2. From what we know, my Commer was sold off between 1946-8. I dont have contract numbers but I do have its chassis number.
  3. How old was the paint? Thats a lot of lumps formed. I am toying with the idea of brush and roller painting top coats on ours as its outside. I do find spraying much quicker and easier though.
  4. Are the RLC keycards only postwar?
  5. A nice dry day for spraying then?
  6. Good luck in your search, I recall with my first vintage car I had a hell of a time getting evidence to reclaim the original registration. We had lots of things like tax discs etc but it wasnt until we got in touch with the Kithead Trust that we got certified dated index cards and that was what clinched it with the DVLA.
  7. Hi and welcome to the forum, did you get any of her history when buying her from Aus?
  8. Many pre-war Fords have the drop type bumper, the Models Y and C and the 7Y 8hp and 7W 10hp. Of the above it is only the Model C that has a radius at both top and bottom of the windscreen frame.
  9. Bought a new welder, a good brand and gasless as my previous model. Tried it out last weekend and the weld quality was really good, very minimal burn through and the weld was very consistant. I managed to fabricate and weld in repairs to the passenger door skin and allowed it time to be fettled and then when cooled off a quick skim of filler over it. Next thing on the list or should I say plan is to build a permanent roof to the shelter that the lorry is under. I have drawn up a sectional roof and had it punched and folded at work. I have designed it basically as a big mechano set so that it can be put together without having too much to lift into place etc, it can be assembled in situ over the lorry. Now the weather down here in Somerset seems to have turned wet I think its needed more than ever! I will post some picks when its together.
  10. Superb images. I note that what I presume is a requisitioned Fordson 7V in the last picture.
  11. My maternal Grandfather was also in the 56th in Italy, he was with the London and Scottish.
  12. It is looking good. Good job you have the forklift as that axle looks a heavy lump!
  13. Good to see you got some glass cut, I am trying to do the same locally as someone has replaced our door glass with perspex!! We have a 1937 Ford Ten car and the window channel is different to yours, maybe the Fordson range of the time, 7V or E88W etc would be the same?
  14. I must say it looks very good. Its been great to follow. I am working on front wings at the moment and after cleaning up the welding getting contours right with filler layers is tedious to say the least!!
  15. Sounds interesting, something I like is searching for history of a vehicle. Its good that you have been able to narrow it down.
  16. Hi Ray, good you've made it on here. Its a nice group.
  17. Yes, many have gone overseas over the last few years. We don't see many about at shows these days but I do know of a few knocking about in timber yards locally.
  18. The screen on our Commer is different in that it has an undercut on the front face in which the rubber surround sits, its also shaped rounded with no straight sections. I also have an issue with the two securing screws each side, seen at the top of the picture. The screen surround is in two halves and I need to get these undone to replace the cracked screen glass and make the repair on the lower section. The screws will simply not budge.
  19. If you do find someone let me know, we are trying to find someone to repair our frame and we are in the south west.
  20. Nothing wrong with having a dream or wish list, its always nice to aim for something but you never know what you might turn up in your search. Something else might be more reasonable or available that might take your fancy.
  21. I dont recognise the type if hitch? Is that original do you think?
  22. Well done, definately some pictures please...
  23. So, a bit of digging and I have found the issue with the new welder... Lowest setting is 50amps, not ideal at all for welding bodywork. The old Mig has a lowest setting of 25amps so no wonder I didnt get these problems before. Now then, I see a way round this if I can find a way of repairing the old welder.... Sorry Burwood, this has hijacked your post so I will take this into a new one.
