  1. I have just bit the bullet and ordered the timber for the outer body members and for a new rear cross member...4 pieces of Sapele...with Vat and Delivery...£300 gone...phew I hear what you are saying, timber is very pricey at the moment.
  2. Amazing, where on earth did you find it?
  3. Its coming along very well. Already looking very much the part. The RCH work looks good too.
  4. Now, that is a rarity. Its based on the larger Hillman Hawk / 16 chassis not the Minx.
  5. Slowly but surely. Its looking good.
  6. All the work is looking very good. Its nice to follow this.
  7. It would most likely be an N Model, one of the smaller ones in the range too like an N1 by the looks of it. They weren't built for the military so I would agree with Richard that its an impressed vehicle. The Q Range was introduced in 1939 and they did produce them as normal and forward control so I suppose it could be a Q25 forward control. You would need to see the front to be sure.
  8. I must agree, thats some very neat welding on such heavy duty material. It will look great when finished.
  9. We're booked in, havent missed one yet. Its a lovely show.
  10. £125 a vehicle, current climate that is shocking. Also consider all the other costs involved in getting our vehicles there. Without the vehicles and the enthusiasts who own and restore them what type of show do they have? I cant see why you spite those that essentially bring in the paying public.
  11. Spent yesterday (23/04) at Castletown D-Day Museum, as always a great day out. Its so nice to have a museum where people can sit in vehicles or pick up exhibits, learning more than just the written text. I took my 10 year old along, he jumped at the chance to go. Both decked out in our full 37 pattern kit. It was so good to see many like minded younger people wanting to carry on the mantle of re-enacting and carry on the storytelling of events from WW2.
  12. Thats right. We just keep going. These projects are a challenge and thats what makes it all the more worthwhile when we see a finished job🙂
  13. We've got on really well with the cab and painting just recently so this was a bit of a moral setback!?!?
  14. So, we have removed all the rotten floor of the body to then find the cross members in this condition... They are very crumbly and you can see the wood is just falling apart. There are 3 out of the 6 that are saveable.
  15. Great looking truck. Welcome to the forum.
  16. We've always used Woolies. Good prices and good quality.
  17. I have driven the civilian Fordson 7V, very similar gear position. I even recall now the ache in my shoulder afterwards.
  18. Thank you Pete, some more ideas to take a look at. Richard, I know the pipe you are talking about. We are down the yard tomorrow morning so we can take a look at it. Thank you.
  19. This is a manual I have for a civilian Q2 2/3 tonner. It is fitted with the same carb as mine the Solex 40 FAI. Mine is set up in the same way, no air cleaner but just the dust cap (item 39) that sits on the top of the carb held off about an inch by two securing screws.
  20. Thats my thought Richard. But, due to the constraint of the bulkhead to the carb she will have to have an adapter like in the 3 tonner pic earlier in the thread.
  21. She ticks over very smooth, and the engine sounds lovely on low revs. But when you put your foot down quite hard you can hear the carb suck. We spent a long time setting tje timing and getting the carb set right so that she starts, stays running and ticks over smoothly. I have a petrol engined 1950 Commer too, she is a very smooth runner. She has the oil bath air cleaner fitted to the carb. Just to see what happens we ran her and took the air cleaner off. The same thing happened, runs smooth on tickover but give her some throttle and you can hear the carb sucking and she doesnt run well. The main point that I have been wondering is that I have a book for the 15cwt and it has an air cleaner, I have a book for the 3 tonner and that has an air cleaner, I dont have a book for the 30cwt so cant check but my Commer came with an open carb, I wonder why that is and wonder should it have one as the others in the range?
  22. So, I have one issue when running the engine on the Commer and that is that the carb does not have an air cleaner fitted and this then becomes difficult to keep her running well cause as soon as you open the throttle she sucks in loads of unrestricted air. I have a few manuals for the larger 3 tonner and that has the same engine but they have an air cleaner fitted to the carb so I was wondering about trying to fit the same to mine to aid her smooth running. The ac cleaner I have seen before but its Item 9 in the diagram that is essential in offsetting the cleaner as the carb is actually quite close to the bulkhead.
  23. We had to have a move around of our shed at the weekend to fit in one of our cars so with the nice weather we had the lorry out in the yard to work on. All of the welding on the cab is now finished, in the end we have had to work on both front wings, re-skinned the passenger door, rebuilt both of the door apertures and rebuilt the rear cab mounting. The rear wings still need work and the bonnet is in quite a state but the main cab is now complete and we are in the process of filling and rubbing down. Also, after so long with her standing we were really pleased that only after a few turns with the fuel pumped up she fired and ran quite nicely so moving her about was easy. the chassis and running gear is all primed ready for top coats, the paint is now on order. We will brush paint all this but he cab will be etch primed and sprayed.
  24. I had a look at the auction catalogue, quite a few interesting lots. The Bedford has a £5-8000 estimate.
