  1. Hi Richard Apparently there were few if any Austin Tilly's supplied to the RAF most seem to have been Hillmans or Standards, however the vehicle may have been supplied to the Ministry of Supply or similar body for onward delivery to commonwealth forces which could account for it being in Australia but at the moment all of this is speculation. A small number of Austins were sent to Australia after WW2 to help fill a gap in the domestic market for tradesmen transport. They were sold through the Australian government who fixed the price to the retailers. Its possible mine was one of these which , I guess , may have never been recorded with the military. Not much help with the DVLA Thanks to everybody for the feedback so far, the search goes on !! John
  2. Hi Radek This is where the problem starts. My chassis is after S1444 and before S4643. The number I gave you is from the chassis plate riveted to the left hand bulk head and has been authenticated as original by The Tilly Register so it looks like there must have been a contract between the two other contracts above. I'm not sure where this all goes now but I am currently in contact with the U.K. Austin 10 Drivers Club who are fairly confident they have records which may help me. I have to wait and see. All the best John
  3. Hi Radek Chassis No is G/YG222349. Thanks John
  4. Hi All Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. I have explored all except the Tank Museum but have drawn a blank. Indeed some have simply not replied! I'm talking to the Austin 10 Drivers Club who think they may be able to help. Time will tell. Meanwhile I'll carry on with the restoration
  5. Hi Lex As I mentioned, as a member, I am in touch with the register but they are unable to provide the required info but they are helping to look at other options.
  6. Hi No, there was no useful info except the normal invoice etc from the vendor. The Tilly had been off the road since at least 1977having been stored at the vendors father's workshop. I have a copy of the invoice when it was sold at auction in 1977 as an un-registered project. I do have its reg plate details but I'm having problems getting hold of anybody at Western Australia's Dept of Transport to see if they keep post war records.
  7. Hi All Thanks very much for your suggestions. I will follow up with the motor museum but I am told they have little or no ww2 Austin records as presumably they were destroyed at the factory during the war. I will also follow up the RLC route. As for the contract numbers DVLA will not accept that the vehicle was built between two contracts as proof of age. They are saying we have to have a specific recorded date. Seems ridiculous to me but there we are. The Tilly Register and the Federation of Historic Vehicle Clubs is trying to use thier good offices with the DVLA to see what can be done. Thanks to all
  8. Hi All As a nubie to the forum I'm not sure if I'm in the right section but here goes anyway I have recently purchased a Tilly from Australia and cutting a long tedious story short am having problems with DVLA confirming the date of manufacture, consequently they have refused my application for an age related plate despite the best efforts of the Tilly Register and IMPS.The problem stems from my chassis number being between two known contracts. I know it's a long shot but does anybody out there have any Ruddington disposal details of Tilly's post war which might tie up with my chassis number, or have suggestions for dating evidence. BMH Gaydon have Austin build records but as I understand only post war as wartime records seem to have been destroyed. Many thanks
