ajmac Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 This sounds like fantasy to me but I'll ask anyway: Chatting to a work colleague today we got talking about his time at agricultural collage in the 80's, where one of his friends spoke of seeing a dozen ‘unloved’ wartime German halftracks (one would presume 251s) in a warehouse on Dartmoor. No more info ATM, but does it ring any bells? Quote
ArtistsRifles Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 (edited) No - but give me the Sat Nav co-ordinates or grid reference and I'll be there with a low-loader immediately!!!   Edited February 6, 2009 by ArtistsRifles Quote
Tony B Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 There proably out trying to grit the roads at the moment.:-D I did know the farrier who went to Dartmoor Prision. They had during the late '70s twenty Dartmoor Ponies supposedly for officers to use in case of escapes and bad weather. Have you seen the size of the avaerage Dartmor pony? Quote

Adrian Barrell Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 They could have been US halftracks, given that most films by that time used them to play Germans, many people would think they were German. A friend of mine bought his M14 from a contractor in Norfolk in about 1980 after I saw several doing sea defence work on the beach. They had quite a fleet and one left completely unmodified as they bought it. Quote
Richard Farrant Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 They could well have been Czech OT-810 halftracks, which look similar to German WW2 types. At the period mentioned, quite a few were imported and there was a dealer down in the Devon area. Quote
Adrian Barrell Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 DEF Armaments I think, however, that was a bit later, nearer the late 80's, early 90's? Probably the most likely explanation though. Preston would know. Quote

Great War truck Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Thats right. Dave freeman. One of them survives at Prestons place. It is of course an OT 810. Tim (too) Quote
