In the 70s in battersea RUNAMOKE was the company specialising in Mokes,it was close to RR sevices.Who knows what the RR stands for,Dont forget the four wheel drive prototype. We built one at Metropolitan water board ran on gas for tunnel work.

Theres one hanging in the Haines Musuem i think Burley Boy has a picture.

Rumoured to of been used on carrier decks, never seen any evidence tho.I would think it was proberbly the only one.not the sort of thing people say,i know lets make a military moke.Today its different people look for the most unusual things as most else has been done. What about the Citreon 2cv the marines had now that was odd.

Thanks CW,

I think that was taken in mid to late 80's, as to where? I cant remember :???. I do know I photographed one at Great Warbirds, late 80's, if it was the same one?

Mark,

That picture is of one of the Australian Army versions, there have been one or two of these at rallies in recent years.

Runamoke exported lots to Australia, when they became unavailable here

they became desirable,so they imported lots of them back.

Here's a genuine Australian army Moke . Last Saturday at the Melbourne ANZAC day march ..

Don't think the roll bar is a standard fitting .

nice!!!!!!.

If I remember correctly, in a issue of Wheels and Tracks there was a article on Military Mokes, including piccys of RAAF Police dog carriers, basically 2 cages on the back deck replacing the rear seats, is there any of them preserved down under?

I'm old enough to remember them being used on the larger army bases here. They were runabouts , taking people from A to B on the base .

Leyland here ( or BMC or whatever it was ) built a prototype small 4X4 loosely based on the Moke . In the 70's Leyland also attempted to break into the large saloon car market with a large car called the P76 ..it was a flop ..but it wasnt a bad car ...it just looked very ugly. There is a P76 club here that is a sort of joke among car enthusiasts.

The RAAF had some vehicles of their own peculiar need.

Some of the BMC stuff here was rebadged ..I think we got Morris instead ofAustin in some cases.
