Rootes75
So, now the body has been removed from our Commer Q2 I am looking to source replacement timbers and looking ahead to find a suitable canvas. She is 1942 so base colour will be SCC2 so canvas will need to match, does anyone have any recomendations for canvas suppliers/manufacturers? 67burwood
American canvas, John and Mary worthing If you have an old canvas for a pattern their work is fantastic
Rootes75
I dont have the old canvas as a pattern. But, I thought before I strip all the rotten timber out I can put all the hoops back on and it can all be measured up.

simon king
Good luck trying to find anyone who can supply SCC2 coloured canvas! If you find anyone let us know as I’ve been looking for ages with no luck. As far as I’m aware, both Worthing’s and Allied Forces aren’t interested in doing British stuff any more. Must be a business opportunity for someone out there to really concentrate on British and Commonwealth canvas

Must be a business opportunity for someone out there to really concentrate on British and Commonwealth canvas When I asked the Worthing's about making bits for my British vehicles they told me that the bloke that worked for them and specialised in that field had left and that they were concentrating on American vehicles. As for the SCC2 canvas I seem to remember that Alan at soldier of fortune had some made to use for British tents or something, it might be worth asking him. 10FM68
Undercover Covers do a lot of British military canvas tilts etc, both stock items and bespoke. I do not know, however, whether they have SCC2 canvas, but they're worth talking to. The quality of their stuff is reportedly absolutely excellent.
Richard Farrant
Some years ago, I needed to have a new canvas top cover made for a Dingo scout car, this would have been brown canvas in the wartime period. None of the afore mentioned canvas makers were interested as they said it was not possible to obtain Brown canvas. It did not take me long to find a supplier in England and after seeing a sample, went ahead and got a top cover made by a local sail maker. This led to a number of orders from other Dingo owners and all were satisfied with the colour. In fact a forum member asked if I could get a canvas sheet made for his Carrier to the original design and he approved the colour. The supplier to contact is Kayospruce Ltd in Fareham, Hants, Product is called Cotton Canvas, but there are several weights of canvas and I don't recall the exact one I used. Their website shows the colour, but they will send you samples. regards, Richard

Simon, I am pretty sure it was R16 that I used. I have similar grade canvas on my QL and that sheet was made and fitted in 1993 and still good. Rootes75
Before we start stripping all the rotten timber from the Commer body we are going to fit all the hoops and take lots of photos and all its measurements. We will do that today. I am a Design Engineer by trade so will take all the dimensions and sketches back to work and draw it up properly. Then I can send the drawings on to a canvas maker when the body is being repaired.
