Jack
You know that the best days are the days that you don't plan?! This happened to us yesterday whilst we were down at Upottery to watch the C47 take off. Robin came up to me and said that this gentleman would like to meet you. Tony Gosling is the name and I am Great War Trucks father - would you like to drop in on your way home? Well knowing the work of these guys I accepted without thinking twice - you don't often get the opportunity to look around a collection of WW1 vehicles. When we had finished at the airfield we dropped into Tony's and what a place. This is the sort of place that if you spent to long there you would soon be writing a best selling child's book - this is the place where your mind can escape the 'real' world - the second batch of images will show you what I mean! Mr GWT senior is a gentleman in every sense of the word and Mrs GTW hospitality is second to none and it was a real pleasure and privilege to not only be shown around a unique collection but also to be a sharing a pint of beer in such fine company. ..........don't you just like life. Some serious enginners - a rebuilt 1917 four wheel drive FWD - attention to detail is outrageous. http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/hmvf/FWD.jpg[/img] http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/hmvf/FWDL.jpg[/img] Steam engine plans on the wall - the engine is being built and a finished model - but where can you drive one of these if you don't have tracks?? http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/hmvf/plans.jpg[/img] http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/hmvf/Engine.jpg[/img] http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s15/hmvf/GWTS.jpg[/img]

After much deliberation and planning i had just started a book. It is to be called "Katy and the trucks of the the US Army Motor Transport Corps 1918 to 1922". I am hedging my bets and going for the young female WW1 truck enthusiast. Tim (too)

Didn't really do that well, a bit like my proposed "Shoot with Mother" radio series. However my "Five go mad in the American Expeditionary Force" colouring book series has done really well and i may even sell a copy of it soon. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/Greatwartruck/Kenwortha.jpg[/img] Tim (too) - who has now totally lost the plot and is entering the HMVF club house of the August Moon
Joris
Great stuff! Any more pictures of the trains or were they on strike?
Great War truck
No, never on strike. Just the drivers are too busy doing other things. So we are always "train"ing up some more. Catch them while they are young and before their enthusiasm is dampened by other things. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/Greatwartruck/AtPlay4Sep2004002a.jpg[/img] This one is a Mack (you may recognise the distinctive bonnet as being the same as that of the WW1 Mack AC Bulldog truck) and is a model of one of two used by the US Army Transporation Corps. It is battery powered and reaches some hairy speeds! The kids love it.
Joris
Wow I love these big "miniature" railways! In Tonbridge we came across a huge track too but there were no trains running then
martylee
I'm getting these fantasies about a little train like the one shown with some remote controlled tanks on the wagons behind it... Well done everyone. You both get gold stars to stick on the chart. Tony just sent me this picture: http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/Greatwartruck/DSCN0621.jpg[/img] Nothing to do with us i must say. We wouldnt mix a Schimwagen on the same car as a helicopter. And people think that we do mad things! Nice models though. Tim

abn deuce
Now does someone need to learn about coloring inside the lines ? :-D. Enigma
Hi Leeenfield The tank is great. The turret and gun moves, it turns on a dime. I put a campingmattras on some steps to make a constant uphill grade and it drove up it - no problem. See Tankcam movie... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a264/T214/th_TigerTank058.jpg[/img]
