draganm
alrighty, looks like we have Burma Spitfire fans here Hope it's true too, and maybe someday we'll find out if they move the airport or runway. It's obvious a lot of stuff was dumped in the Ocean, and I hadn't heard the story of the catapult tests but it's not a surprise either.. I think the Polish possibilities, in terms of finding/recovering something, are a little better though. Although the long article I linked to earlier talked about the Russians literally scouring Eastern Europe for looted Nazi stuff. I'm not expecting the amber room, Nuclear war-heads, or Nazi flying saucers, but relics of any kind would be cool. Hell at this point even pictures of a dig would be ok. GeePig
Haven't you heard? The previous Polish government dug up the train, split the proceeds and now pretend no such thing happened. trevor

GeePig
Not to be left out, Nessie is putting in a summer season! :-D Have you heard the story that they had to keep opening the torpedo nets on Loch Ness every night to let Nessie in and out - usually just before bed time. It's true, I heard it from a man in Torquay whose father was the lighthouse keeper near the loch. trevor

Pretty boring I imagine. Gotta get out and party with all the other sea monsters once in a while, come home loaded at 2AM with your panties on backwards. Or was that an old Girlfriend? Hmmm, not sure, memories a little faded now :-D This however, should be excavated any day now
Tony B
Had the Y fronts on backwards once when GF's parents came home early. Mind you if Nessie did get loaded any lurking Sub would have got one hell of a suprise. :nut: Wish you hadn't posted that picture though, I'll never think of Ivor the Engine in the same way again. draganm
what the hell is going on Poland anyway, they were supposed to start digging a month ago? I'm starting to think they're not really serious about this and are just milking tourist dollars. :-D
cosrec
i have from been told from a friend of a friend that knows some one that heard a farmer has found a chain link and a scrap of aluminium buried in the hillside above the tunnel. They have come to a deal with RAF Cosford for an undisclosed amount to unearth the last ever dornier 17 that was escorting the train. Rumour has it it is in perfect condition but the paper work is not up to date so it will not be flying in the near future

GeePig
If they do find the amber room in Poland then the question is what will they do with it? I cannot see the Russian authorities not demanding it back, but would they be prepared to exchange it for the art that was taken away from Poland after the war for 'reparations'? trevor
draganm
can any of our Polish friends translate what they're talking about ? When it comes to bricked-off sections of old bunkers , is that even war-time? Seems like the bricked off parts were done post-war to keep locals out of dangerous unfinished or unstable construction? RAFMT
So they have 8 days to come up with excuses? (Or am i too cynical after so many non-existent Spitfires, Lancasters, Merlin engines, USAAF vehicle depots?)
Enigma
So they have 8 days to come up with excuses? (Or am i too cynical after so many non-existent Spitfires, Lancasters, Merlin engines, USAAF vehicle depots?) "Don't hit me with them negative waves so early in the morning. Think the bridge (train) will be there and it will be there. It's a mother, beautiful bridge (train) , and it's gonna be there. Ok?" :-D Edited August 8, 2016 by Enigma
draganm
well they've been pulling permits, buying insurance, lining up heavy equipment, and by the looks of mr Andreas and Richter are doing it out of pocket . Maybe some investors like History Channel are contributing in exchange for "exclusive broadcast rights" . It's hard not to be a little cynical after so many snipe-hunts, but I don't get too emotionally involved anyway. Good chance we'll at least see some dirt get pushed around :-)
Tony B
Yeah, but some people did get the Snipe. :-D In this case though probably more of a Unicorn hunt,
