0 robin craig Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 There was a portee project that these were for I believe. The project was canned and it all imploded and died. That is as much as I know. R Quote
0 challengertwo Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 These are Supacat HMT 600 MEP. 35 were built for the Soothsayer programme, a replacement for the Odette electronic warfare system. The whole project was cancelled in 2009 at a huge cost to the taxpayer. Most of them are in storage at Millbrook at the moment. This is what they would have looked like with the purpose built box body fitted to the Supacat. Quote
0 andym Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) Aha - hence the "demountable bodies" that Withams were selling. Shame they don't keep them together! The NAO report calls the vehicles Supacat Meonics. Andy Edited August 17, 2013 by andym Quote
0 robin craig Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Thanks for clearing that up, from the original picture it was difficult to see if it was a 6 or 8 by. The portee project was with M777. Thanks R Quote
0 g0ozs Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Does anyone know if the demountable container was manned ? It seems rather lacking in headroom or is the cab taller than it looks ? Iain Quote
0 Kuno Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 It may be that the roof could be lifted up to create sufficient headroom. I have seen such already for big "mobile homes" (to lower the height of the vehicle and safe cost when entering a ferry-boat). Quote
0 wally dugan Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 IT is my understanding that you need more than one of these pods for the system to work Quote
0 utt61 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 A similar platform was to be used for the (cancelled) LIMAWS® and LIMAWS(G) projects:- http://www.army-technology.com/projects/limaws/ http://www.military-today.com/artillery/m777_portee.htm Intersting (but very ugly!) vehicles, I wonder what will become of them.
