ebay shipping fees

I am guessing there are a good few ebay buyers here, so what do you make of this:

I purchased a two items totaling £3 which were listed individually by the same seller. (admittedly a good price but hey it is an auction....that's the point....)

I got an invoice with the postage on which was £6 per item, so totaled £15...

One plastic bag arrives, by one of the low cost couriers (I checked their site and it would have cost £2.50 all up to ship).

Only one item made it, in the bag.... no other packing etc....

I thought the days of rip off shipping costs had gone on ebay....

I will take it up with the seller, but just interested to hear what others have found.

I similarly have had experience of this, so now before I bid on an item I always check the price of the postage and if I am not happy with the price I do not bid on the item. If I purchase two items from the same seller I always ask for a revised postage cost and if they will not agree I cancel the purchase.

Dont forget you have to give the seller feedback?

AND dont forget you cant give negative feed back even if they are a useless lying t*at!!!!

Had many experiences like this, mainly from none specialists who just want your cash!!

Ive been after a Welbike resto for a while now but daft priced wanted just put the brakes on it.

I am toying with building my own repo like a few have done (just missed out on Dave Griffiths` and he lives just round the corner from me....!!!)

But the main parts, frame, tanks, forks etc are made in India.

Bad workmanship, unsent orders and blatant lies from suppliers has put me off completely plus the postage charges!!

Ive come to the conclusion of why bother!!! Thats just me im afraid!

It varies from seller to seller. Most are honest and will give discount on postage for multiple items even if they don't say so to start with. Like everywhere else in life there are some rogues too, and eBay's encouragement to give "free" postage allows them to hide the true cost.

The bottom line is the packing and carriage charges for each item must be stated so always check and if any doubt ask.

Most sellers are fair but a few put a big markup to offset a low selling price and fees.

As to combined shipping unless the seller has a listed policy always ask before bidding / clicking buy-it-now.

Incidentally since April if the smallest dimension of a packet or box is 8cm or more the minimum Royal Mail price is over £5 :wow:

Hence Hermes or Collect+ are cheaper although neither have a great reputation ...

Unfortunately, there are also some complete terry f**wits who don't know how to do 'out', but manage to put a photo up and have access to a computer. If you paid by paypal, claim it back via them using the despute method. the posty in uk is really taking the p though, as different postage prices for America and now Australia/new Zealand etc.
