I too think it's Bovvy (no particular feeling other than gut) and someone is being escorted out of the post in traditional fashion.

The last pic, the guy with back to camera reminds me awfully of my first squadron leader (major, 15/19H, 1976-78ish) who went on to command the regiment in the 80s, but it certainly doesn't look like him sat on top of the Chieftain. His PerSec precludes me from naming him.

But I cannot be 100% sure. Not a lot of help sorry.

Hi

Many Thanks for the Info - Any Idea what the Stenciled Info on the front Track Guard of the Scorpion means - Does that relate to March 1975 ?.

Cheers.

Bob.

According to the East of England Museum list, that Chieftain was 'smelted'. I dont know exactly what that means but it doesnt sound good. By a quirk of fate though the MVT do have the service and maintenance records for that vehicle which they will sell you for a fiver! See their website for details..

Cheers

Possible explanation is that when the Conventional Arms Reduction talks/treatys between Soviet and Nato retired AFV's were required to be destroyed under witness. A lot had cutting charge tied round them and were permenatley sliced. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_on_Conventional_Armed_Forces_in_Europe

Not my first instinct, though the wagon looks new, sharp edges etc. I was surprised even to see track guards: not robust enough in service + no spares = never seen them. In which case 3/75 might well be the right time frame but more by fluke than intention imho.

I see that the Cheiftain has similer markings on the front Mud Flap - so I assume it could be around that time - The Scorp looks new, and as you say, its in very good nik, don't think that wading screen has seen the light of day.

Cheers.

I think these photos were taken in BAOR. We had exactly the same in Padderborn, they were all built pre war to the same German design.

Are they 14/20H (the memory is going: a quick Google confirms I was right about the budgie on the yellow background)? Change the cap badge and the colour of the woolly pulley and they could be 15/19H (or practically any other cavalry regiment).

Yes, your right. HRH The Princess Anne had just become CinC, and was on a visit. Padderborn, 1969.
