Help! Need a company that deals with MOD hydraulic fittings

Does anybody know of a supplier or manufacturer where I can get hydraulic fittings?

We've got a right angled union off a Chieftain that's given up the ghost.

It's 1 3/8" UNF thread. Male one end with a captive nut and fixed olive the other.

I've tried Marcus Glenn but they don't have any spares and don't know anybody who could help.

I did a trawl through the furom but couldn't find anyone.

Thanks both. Just been to Pirtek who said that it's a very weird thread, also the setup is weird. It's a BSP setup, but with a 1 3/8" UNF thread. They don't stock a 1 3/8" thread, a 1 5/16" yes, but not the one I need.

 

 

onthercorner, I'll give them a go....

 

 

So does anyone know anybody selling NOS Chieftain stuff? I need the engine oil tank for the GUE......

I don't think that all branches of Pirtek will have the odd MOD fittings. The Portsmouth branch does because they do work for MOD - they've successfully managed to replicate all but two of my Abbot hydraulic hoses. The remaining two they had to cut out and reuse the old fittings.

Thanks all.

 

I found out that this fitting was made over 20 years ago (nothing unusual there), and the company who made these has gone out of business.

 

New plan.

Remove the naughty pipe and get a new one made up with whatever fittings we can save (including the captive nut) - easy peasy - apart from removing the engine that we've just put back in.........

Your joking arnt you.....!!!! I was senior engineer for them for over 10 yrs up here and they are all muppets!!! LOL

Case of no love lost there then!!:D

 

Why not try your resident online club member who owns his own HYDRAULICS COMPANY!!

AND to boot does the work on the MOD ships up here in Cammel Lairds Ship Yard!:shocked:

 

AND has made the 13/8" UNF hoses on the Fleet Auxillary ships that supply high pressure air (500 Bar) to the submarines they are supplying!:cool2:

 

I do wish some people would have the time to read the NEWBEES intros when we come on...!! ;)

Hmm, not subtle, but effective ...:D

 

( Not that 500 bar is high pressure, testing at over 3100 barg here in Aberdeen. )

 

I know that 500 bar is not high pressure, thats working pressures, burst is 4 times that and test is 1 1/2 times.

 

We supply hoses to the MOD at 1400 bar (certified to 2100 bar) and some to 2000 bar (certified to 3000 bar)

 

As most modern STANDARD hydraulic systems rarely go over 500 bar (most valve blocks and solenoid valves would blow at that, not to mention interface seals and securing bolts!)

 

We have done work Hydrasun engineers down here and taken contracts off Rolls Royce, as we make all our hoses onsite up to 2" multispiral.

 

End of FREE PLUG....LOL. ;)

The 1 5/16" is a JIC fitting (dash 21) which is too small (1 3/8" equates to 1 6/16") but still has the 12TPI on the threads, also it has an inverted cone (convex) on the face. A BSP has a convex cone (unless its JIS when it has a concave cone; ie. Caterpillar fittings! confused yet???) LOL

Has your fitting got a concave cone on the face or flat faced?? Any pics available??

We can make them to suit with a pattern or make new hoses (plain black with no coloured brand writing on if you prefere) re-using your original ends and tested.

We can also manufacture and supply seals to pattern if required, in most materials.

 

If you ask we can only say no, which isnt very often! lol

Now thats a nice one....!

1 5/26" wired nut with a convex cone (Bsp 60 degrees, JIC 37 degrees or SAE 45 degrees?) compact Male / Female 90! The thread on the male side the same (will the nut screw on it?)

It looks like it has been manufactured out of TWO parts judging by the seam below the male thread.

I know Burnett And Hillmann can make one offs like this but it would cost a bit.

I will speak to my suppliers this morning and get the feelers out. If theres some out there they will find them.

 

Good old British MOD, never a dull moment!! The ones I do for the MOD ships have same threads BUT no cone, flat on the faces!!!! They say variety is the spice of life eh???

o you know if the cone is 60 degrees, 37 degrees of SAE 45 degrees (normally oil cooler lines!)

 

Just had a thought, is it off an engine oil cooler system???? Havent come across them for years but they used to use simelar on the oil cooler systems on the old Atlantean Busses!! We used to take the adaptors out of the coolers etc and fit our own to make it easier to connect.

Has the hose that goes onto it got like a fabric braid on the outside and the fittings on the ends have FLATS on the collar (ferrule) that holds them to the hose???

There is a specialist company that supplies this stuff called BURGAFLEX, havent used them in years but might be worth a try if its oil cooler lines!!!
