protacman Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 (edited) Hi All, I'm rebuilding a 1943 Dodge WC51 for my wife (sounds like a fair Swap) Can anyone tell me the lengths of wood used in the roof hoops, both up and across. Edited April 12, 2012 by protacman Quote
beepbeep Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I made mine last year from the dimensions shown on this site. I used ash although I think the originals were probably red oak http://www.wc-52.com/ Chris Quote
Tony B Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 That's assuming the last crack! Definitley the right choice. Have you got the build card details? Quote
protacman Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 I have no details, I picked it up in France, drove it around for the 65th Anniversery. i'm only getting to the rebuild now. There is an album on Facebook in "The Curtis Collection" Quote
gas 44 Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Hi Tony, Can you point me in the right direction to aquire the build card for our Wc 51. Thanks in advance Gary Quote
Nick Johns Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 $25 from http://chryslerheritage.iconicweb.com/pg904.htm Quote
Tony B Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 They will acept currency or a money order. Takes about 4 to 6 weeks. E mail first and they will check whether they have the exact record or only close. Fortunatley for me my two exact records exist. Quote

protacman Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 Working on the Engine Rebuilt the Genny and sorted the regulator Had to do a lot of rewiring Quote
GoranWC51 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 The engine should be painted smoky white (see pic), not the green it has now. I believe that colour was used post war when rebuilding them. Good luck, Goran N Quote
gas 44 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Nick,Tony sorry I have been a little slow with my reply in saying thankyou.....sometimes work just gets in the way of fun. Thanks Gary Quote
protacman Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 I suspected the colour was post war, please don't tell anyone else. We'll keep it a secret......... Now, on to my next mistake..... seriously, thanks Quote
Tony B Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I suspected the colour was post war, please don't tell anyone else. We'll keep it a secret......... Now, on to my next mistake..... seriously, thanks So? A lot of Dodges saw action poast WW2. Korea, the Sahara, India, Israel. Why does it have to be WW2 spec? Quote
protacman Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 We did the woodwork, I made up the Bowes to my own spec...... The seats and backs are as close as I can get with local materials. Quote
GoranWC51 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I got hold of a overhauled Carter Ball&Ball ETW 1 carburettor, just like the one in your WC51, and it had been renovated by the Norwegian army in 1983. It sported exactly the same really ugly green colour. Goran N Quote
protacman Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 It sported exactly the same really ugly green colour. Now it's ugly.......Em.......... Quote
Tony B Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 There only jealous! :-D Looking good, when do you aim to finish? Quote
protacman Posted April 16, 2012 Author Posted April 16, 2012 Ordered the paint today, I want to be finished for a show in may Quote
Tony B Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 So fingers crossed, we will both have new Dodges to show off this summer! :-D Quote
maigaard Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Looking good. I am at about the same stage with the restoration of my WC-52, tackling the wood bits of the bed. I need to fabricate the benches and uprights from scratch as well, some good inspiration here. /Peter Quote
protacman Posted April 17, 2012 Author Posted April 17, 2012 (edited) Thanks, I got the metal pieces from Wildenberg in Beltring. Countersunk slot heads locally. Diamensions on the wood from the site mentioned in this thread. (Now for the funny) WC52....Thats like our truck with a wench on the front..... How useful is that. Edited April 17, 2012 by protacman Quote
maigaard Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I've been wondering about the metal bits for the benches, if I should try to fabricate them myself or perhaps order from John at Midwest. Might be cheaper to get from Wildenberg if he has them as well. That site with all the dimensions is great, I've just used the drawings from there to make the floor boards. /Peter Quote
GoranWC51 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Davs Peter, What kind of wood did you use for the floor boards, oak? My WC51 is coming along slowly but surely and we're aiming to pick it up in June, hopefully. I'll be taking it on a shake down cruise around the Battle of the Bulge areas in Belgium for about a week, together with my new Willy's MBT, before heading home to Stockholm. Göran N Quote
