GPRegt
Bringing this back on thread The theory that the glider was crated up and returned to the UK is a new one to me. Complete gliders were, however, 'snatched' from where they had landed. Also, if you put a jeep in a CG4A there's nowhere for eight passengers to sit - except in the jeep! Steve W. ruxy
My thoughts also , having seen this here & watched the BBC news :- We all know what is now Cumbria (also parts of Scotland just over the border) were covered with ASU (Aircraft Storage Unit) + MU (Maintenance Unit). I can see why Carlisle Museum staff (or was it TV reporting staff) would like to attach history to The Border Regiment - however , pure dreaming with what remains and no documented evidence. QUOTE. It is thought the Waco glider was used to carry Border Regiment troops into Sicily and was then crated up and shipped back to Britain. I share that and it's to be hoped that museum staff will have a 'reality check' and realise that there was no way that one particular glider would be taken back to N Africa, crated up and shipped home. Chris Hall
This is old news and I'm not sure why its made the news again. It was found in 1993.

Tobin
I remember years ago finding unopened bundles of "window" in the ditch under the hedge at RAF Enstone! T
Chris Hall
The glider is now being restored Steve W. I think its just going to be the front section with a jeep driving out as the display. I'm hoping to get up there at some point as I've got a invite from Stuart Eastwood to visit, hopefully I can get a good look at the small arms section too. anderson
Attached a photo of the Waco and jeep at the museum in Carlisle, which is due to reopen this week. The jeep is completely finished but the glider has still a few small jobs left to do. Will take a better photo when the temporary screens are removed which will show the cockpit in the raised position. As stated in one of the previous posts its only the cockpit, part of the fuselage and about 20' of one wing, as the space in the museum only allows this. Hope this is of interest, anyone passing through Carlisle it would be well worth a visit. Andrew
