rampant rivet Posted January 15, 2012 Author Share Posted January 15, 2012 Cheers Ross Have sourced oil filter have rebuilt brake master cylinder today and prepped inner windscreen ready for painting along with vaccum tank for wiper motors am starting to make new brake lines, bleedin cold in the shed yesterday morning -5 degs day spent cleaning off all the old crud from front axle etcetc, roll on spring !! The reason I ask is that at 1/35th scale I am an OK painter but now that I have a 1:1 scale vehicle to paint i'm kinda wondering what to do. R Paint code Is BS224 Deep Bronze Green Gloss, its ordinary cellulose paint made by firwood and sold by Jeeparts UK which I spray using an air compressor must say its good paint to use easier than the olive drab that I've used on my Jeep in the past. rampant rivet Posted January 31, 2012 Author Share Posted January 31, 2012 Succesfull trip to Stoneleigh , thanks to dave lock and Malcolm I now have all the major parts to continue the restoration, all the shotblasting has now beeen done and I have started rebuilding the brakes on the front axle. Am now tidying the engine bay next so that the oil filter, air filter and carb can be fitted, need to sort batteries then hopefully start the engine. Fit the new mesh in the radiator guard of course ! ! this week I have been spraying all the parts that were blasted apart from tonight tooooo cold in the garage. I was doing mine in Bristol for the Pig as it was closer to work and visit. At first they wanted to see it. I explained it was a none runner and 4.5 tonnes, so not a simple trip on an ifor trailer etc......... They didn't process so I got a credit note and next step is to provide a rubbing of the chassis plate and dated photo etc so I can get her registered with a 1959 related plate. Age was verified through the MVT vehicle inspectorate officer. Obviously my dear friend Clive was a massive help with data and the like. rampant rivet Posted February 19, 2012 Author Share Posted February 19, 2012 Busy day down the shed today managed to refit the air cleaner, oil filter, carb and the vac tank for the wipers, had hoped to do more but every job seems to that much longer to do on a Champ compared to my Jeep, have brought the radiator back for refurbishment having flushed it out. Rover8FFR Posted February 20, 2012 Share Posted February 20, 2012 RR Just wanted to say a big thank you. Popped over to Bream today and met Deano! Very helpful and left a few bits with him to do. Needless to say I will be going back with more. Whilst there Deano showed me a hot zinc powder process instead of hot zinc dipping that does not distort thinner panels and can be overpainted without specialist primers or T wash first. Catch 22 LBDR Posted February 20, 2012 Share Posted February 20, 2012 I dont know about hot zinc powder, but I would avoid ordinary powder coating like the plague, if it gets a scratch the water gets under the powder coat and rot the steel. I'm a big fan of good quality paint because you can always sand it and repaint it again and again with out any major expense, But that's just me.
