Carruthers
I believe the photo is of a BSA 550 chorehorse generator used, amongst other things, for charging batteries. I'm looking for one, but first i need to identify it correctly. Can anyone confirm what this gene is please? Does anyone have any photos or info on them? Any info appreciated chaps. thanks. Simon PS It was used in the back of 15cwt WT house bodied vehicles, but I guess it had other uses... Once I know for sure I'll put a wanted ad in classifieds..... Adrian Barrell
That's not a Chorehorse, there was a thread running on them recently. They are easy enough to find but usually the post-war 30 volt types. The wartime models are 12 (15) volt and not so common but do turn up. http://www.stationary-engine.co.uk/Portland08/Portland08468.htm
Tony B
Chore horse are diffrent to the BSA. The BSA are later, bothof these are smaller than your picture and have the fuel tank mounted under the engine. Externally the are all but identical. Internally there are some diffrences. Carruthers
Thanks Adrian and Tony, I have one of the smaller genes, similar to that in the link you sent Adrian. I know that's a 'chorehorse', but someone else looked at the photo rcently and said it was a chorehorse too!! So that confused the issue.... So what is it? I should clarify now. I'm after the gene in the photo, not a chorehorse! Are you likely to be this way to check out the carrier, Adrian? simon
mogmaner
The chorehorse engine is inclined this looks more like a delcolite of the 750w 12v type .
Carruthers
thanks for that info. I hadn't heard of Delcolite.. I know the base size as I have the frame it bolts to for removal out of the truck, but that's about it ..... cheers Simon
