  1. The Lancaster went over home (Reading), quite low, about 16.30. Sounded great!
  2. Really pleased with my weekends work, what do you think?
  3. Seems like I have spent eternity stripping the wings, bulkhead, floor panels etc. Finally got some primer and chassis black on them today. Bottom of bulkhead in chassis black. Hopefully I have also solved the rubber mountings so maybe I can start re assembly soon!

So, the saying 'as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike' um, er. :undecided:
  5. What a superb reply, well done sir.
  6. Best wishes in your post, I really really must get around to joining.
  7. Can any of you knowledgable people out there help me with correct markings for a vehicle of 6th Bn Royal Berkshire Regiment around 1940-41 ? I would like to mark up my MW as such when finished.
  8. Looked up your thread - looks like you have some work to do!
  9. Hi Charlie I will take measurments gladly. They are stored up in the loft so may take a few days. I would love to see some pics of yours sometime, maybe start a restoration thread too? Paul
  10. Hi all, time for a progress report. Both front wings now in primer, following a bit of welding, bashing and lots of wire brushing and sanding! They will not be 'factory perfect' as I think a few minor dents are part of her character. (good excuse as any!) I will take some pics next weekend. Hopefully I can soon start to reassemble the front end.
  11. I think it may well have been a trailer pump chassis, possibly for the larger Coventry Climax.
  12. Welcome. I am sure the project will stir alot of interest, I look forward to seeing its progress! I have only seen one of these as a Dinky toy!
  13. Perhaps 'Roll on next year' is not the most apt phrase!?:nut: Great that all were ok.
  14. Thanks gents, sorry about the delay in coming back:blush:
  15. I know I have my restoration thread, but thought my old lady should pop in here too! 1940 MWD.
  16. Has anyone out there got any pics of 15cwt trucks in use as fire tenders or towing trailer pumps? I have seen a model of a Morris C8. I dont know if they were Army Fire Service or local unit modifications. Just wondered whats out there, I know I can rely on you guys!
  17. Thanks for bearing with me guys! Interesting examples there. I had forgotten about that pic of the 2 MWs, and have never seen the second - need a keen eye though!. If only they could talk eh!
  18. As I happily attack the paint on my MW bulkhead, I got to (probably) over thinking things. This may therefore, be a daft question, if so I'll get me coat! Taking my MW as an example, what would be the likely course of its army use? I'll try and explain what I mean: My truck was built in the latter part of 1940. If it was issued to a unit, would it have been likely to stay in that unit for the duration?. My assumption, for instance, is that front line units embarking for front line action would probably be issued with the latest new vehicles? My thinking is based aroung D Day but would apply equally to other theatres. If this is the case would the older vehicles be shifted down to rear echelon units? and if so what would happen to their equipment? Does this mean there would be war surplus even before the end of hostilities? assuming the motor industry is keeping up with demand. So, back to my MW, built 1940, it could have seen either alot or very little service, depending on the user unit, but would it become a hand me down or carry on going with its original unit? Using D Day again (sorry), I dont recall seeing pics of aero screen MWs or other early pattern vehicles about, but maybe they would follow on later with support units etc? Just wondered!
  19. I wonder why the difference in rear axles? It seems no two MW's are alike!
  20. Congratulations on your purchase. There is some great MW help available on this forum. It certainly looked a nice truck. Now, if you should want to exchange those early pattern bonnet sides for some later pattern ones:cool2: All the best.
  21. Always good to hear recommendations. Now, where's the pics of the MW?
  22. Bit more done, fuel tank trays sorted, one was border line scrap, but I think I have saved it. Be gentle with me. The other was really good. They dont match so maybe it has been replaced at some point? I will live with them as they are for now. Rear springs and axle refitted following the arrival of new pins and bushes. Towbar put back together - The only way I could compress the spring was to lower my vintage Dennis fire engine onto it with the trolley jack! serves me right for taking it to bits I suppose! I Have decided to use chassis black as a protective coat before the eggshell topcoat. Any comments on this?
