  1. I have just removed the clutch and flywheel and bellhousing on the MW, to replace the leaking (knackered) core plug. The clutch plate needs replacing so will get one on order in due course, BUT. The manual says to mark the flywheel and clutch cover before removing, whoops,. Have I caused myself a problem when I reassemble?
  2. Not much to report, havent had much time on her recently:blush:. I posted a question re the springs, have a look at the pic in this thread. As Rippo correctly stated, each front spring should have 9 leaves. One leaf on the N/S spring is broken, and until I dismantled it I hadnt noticed that it has an extra leaf!. Any further suggestions on why? New core plugs and gaskets have arrived so progress will start again soon. Regards to all.
  3. That is interesting, its the n/s spring on mine too........
  4. All very strange, the good spring has 9, the other has 10 including the broken leaf!. The broken leaf is the one with the locating holes for the clips, I wonder if that is why it was left in along with a replacement leaf? I have been given a civvy bedford spring, so may use a leaf from that, but also leave one leaf out I guess. Very confused, I have counted the leaves several times to be sure:nut:
  5. Have I completely lost the plot? One front spring has a leaf more than the other, is this correct? If not how many should there be? :nut:
  6. I will probably paint mine black, mind you silver would look nice, or white, or grey or .....:undecided:
  7. I know this is probably a really daft question, but I have often heard it is best to paint matt onto gloss paint to protect from rust. But should the gloss be sanded down first to provide a key, or would this defeat the object of the excercise. If not rubbed down wouldnt the matt paint just flake off? OR would i be better off just painting on primer, undercoat, matt paint then wiping over with WD40. Sorry if I'm going back to basics but dont want to be repainting the MW every show season:red:
  8. Whilst we are looking at the diagram, assembly 57 - 62 on the o/s of the engine is missing. Is it some form of breather?
  9. Thanks for the swift response gents! I think Rippo is probably right, it is holding the small tube, which sits on the longer tube down into the block. I will have a fiddle about with it.
  10. My1940 MW has a 28hp engine with an OX engine number (does this matter?). Under the tappets is what looks like a piece of meccanno with a wire hung from it going down a tube into the push rod chamber. Any ideas what its for please? I have tried to get a couple of pics:
  11. Looks really nice, well worth the effort.
  12. I have a broken leaf on one front spring, any recommendations on repair/replacement please?
  13. You're so right Robert. I sympathise about the marathon, I'll just have to stay in and work on the MW i guess:D You are welcome to walk down and have a look!
  14. I feel a bit guilty 'eavesdropping' on this one guys, but mine has been rewired at some point and uses obviously non original strip connectors. This thread is therefore giving much valuable info. Keep it coming! Paul.
  15. One spring stripped, cleaned, greased and reassembled.
  16. Front axle and springs off, a bit more cleaning done.
  17. Pics of the lights I am proposing to use on my MW. No idea what they are off but originaly had 2 festoon bulbs. My brother is converting to enable them to be stop/tail/indicator. They look (to me anyway) similar style to the Lucas 'pork pie' type but are a little smaller I think, so look in period and hopefully no too intrusive.
  18. Very nice! You are unwittingly helping me a great deal, your questions are ones I will need answering as my resto progresses, so thank you! I hope to see your truck in the flesh in due course and follow your threads with great interest. Paul.
  19. Mine is black too and appears to be the original.
  20. I am planning to use something similar to those pictured, only a little smaller. They are an old pair that have been kicking about the garage. I will try and get a pic but my brother has them for refurbishment at the mo. Trailer boards are not a bad idea but it is something else to remember when you leave a show, plus its kicking about whilst you are there, but of course if you are going for 100% authenticity at the show then I guess this is the only way.
  21. Hi Alec and welcome. You are not alone! Now, would you like another?:cool2:
  22. A bit of progress today, took a few more parts off and starting cleaning the chassis up, filling the garage with dust in the process!
  23. Hats off to you for bravery/optimism/dedication, keep the pics coming. I havent touched my project for a week or so:blush:.
  24. Dont wish to hijack, but on the subject of seats, I need one if anyone should have/see one!
