  1. My previous ATV only had one wiper. Remember these were utility vehicles, built by necessity on the cheap. I guess it was a cost cutting excercise bought in during production, hence the blanked off passenger side. Incidently, not being picky but ATV's were ordered by the Home Office not War Dept. Great to see another one in captivity, the strip down pics bring back memories!
  2. Does anyone know if steel Landrover rims will fit an MB?
  3. Wow, best wishes, will watch with interest. Can't be many ww2 vehicles left out there to find?
  4. Thanks for the response gents, the screens are going opaque, through age rather than scratched. The vehicle is 1956 after all! I have a feeling getting them out may not be that straight forward, but will have to have a look into it.
  5. Any 'aircraft types' know how to clean up clear perspex? I have some curved panels forming part of the screen of a fire engine (built by Miles) that have gone cloudy.
  6. My brother has recently been looking into the contribution made by the Fire Service in the lead up to D Day. There was a great deal of mobilisation to provide fire cover to the massive storage dpots building up in the south, there was also involvement in building the mulberrys and many other things. My brother (and a few friends) own wartime fire appliances. Would there be a place for them at the event and would they be welcome if I can arouse their interest?
  7. Will see if I can organise a pic of an MW fire appliance that I have seen.
  8. Just out of interest, are there any surviving WOT 3 30cwt trucks about, either preserved or laid anywhere? (Any pics?).
  9. Thanks chaps, looks like you were right Richard. There is no clearance at the tappet and there was neat fuel in that exhaust port. Thankfully the valve seat still looks in excellent condition although I think I will lap it in anyway.:yay:
  10. My GPW is not running right. On tickover it gives the impression from the exhaust of running rich, on high revs under load on hills etc there is a very noticeable misfire. I have changed the Distributor cap, leads and plugs and it has a breakerless point conversion. I have now put on a new carb to no avail. A compression test has shown up a drop in compression on no2 cylinder (down to about 70psi) removal of this HT lead on tickover seems to make no difference. Any suggestions on what the problem might be please?
  11. At last, a wartime pic of my jeep! Its 2nd row 3rd from right (honest):cool2:
  12. I hope you've got enough cups for all those people that follow you home! Seriously, great work on Jessie.
  13. And we moan about the inclement weather at shows over here! Ref photographers being armed, watching D Day to Berlin DVD, members of George Stevens Special Coverage Unit certainly were, .45s and carbines.
  14. First and foremost THANK YOU to you guys for even contemplating putting on such an event for the benefit of us all. Bit of a light hearted moan though about the 'jeepism'. Like it or not, they were EVERYWHERE during the war, much as they are at shows now!!!. If there is room at base camp, could the jeep owners come and join in, with perhaps a rota of a few jeeps on each convoy each day? Mine for instance, is marked up as 783rd MP Bn, which operated on the Red Ball route, so would look great alongside a convoy of Jimmies. As for charging entrants, if the event is for 'our' benefit rather than open to the public then of course the organisers can not be out of pocket. Perhaps a public day could offset some expenses? I think we all know the chances of getting decent sponsorship these days. Finally, personaly I think 5 days may be a bit of a tall order, and quite a commitment for many, disappearing from work/home for 3 days is probably alot easier for most. I wish you well with organisation, I was at RTV with my Jeep - It was the best weekend i've ever had with MVs.
  15. What a fine job Mr Barrell. It is easy to take for granted seeing such tanks at shows, without taking into account the work involved. I saw yours at Ramsbury and had no idea. I hope our paths will cross in 2009, so I can buy you a drink!
  16. Great pics, we are even in a couple! Nice to finally meet you both and Jessie. From the Special Coverage Unit!
