Got to admire their solution for transporting a Land Rover to the workshops, mk2 Scammell Explorer and 20 ton low loader. Reminds me of an in service Explorer with a green Minivan on suspended tow parked outside a cafe on the A5 at Cricklewood around 1979.
Thinking about this again, the conventional indicator failure circuit is detecting the presence of an intact incandescent bulb and would only work if the resistor failed, not the LED.
A simple way is to use a set of 24V relays to switch 12V supplies to the lamps, if you have access to relays you can make it up yourself or use one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284187851514
A downside is that a 12V supply is required and usually tapped off the link between the two batteries. This can cause one battery to discharge over time so a better way is to use a 10A 24V/12V dropper as used in trucks.
The LED route is a possibility but remember that it is a legal requirement to have an indicator failure device which will not work by just fitting LED bulbs.
I looked into that a few years ago when I owned a S26 Scammell and wanted to do the same as all four head lamps used H4 twin filament bulbs. It was definitely illegal then.
Seeing as you said large, how about an ex Hungary oilfield Scammell Super Constructor available in High Wycombe? It was on face book or whatever it is called a few days ago, has an offset cab which makes it look strange from the front.
A Hooke's joint or simple universal joint is not constant velocity and would create vibration on the steering axles similar to those on a series Land Rover. I would be surprised if this modification was a success.
"But some Hurricanes were deliberately broken up and buried after the war so the Soviets did not have to pay back the United States"
Really? Something like 1400 were built in Canada but not the USA. A large number were built at Langley at the plant that became home to the Ford 'D' series truck.
The circular covers at the bottom of the block suggest MAN, there is a similar engine with generator here:
