  1. oops ! Sorry but that model isn't an accurate Scammell, it's going far too fast
  2. I would have thought the only problem is that of the driver's licence, but my own view is that if not done for hire and reward it's the same as using any other private motor car to tow, i.e. if I tow my mate's car with mine, so I extend this to the militant if I have to tow anything, as in essence it's a PLG, but has free tax and no mot on the basis of it's age, and non-commercial use. If you were to come a cropper, it would be with your insurance company, and if they are happy that the tow is private, I think that is it. I know others will say different, but I've done this for years with no ill effect. I don't see what benefit it would offer whether the vehicle is tested, insured as a wrecker for commercial use and the driver suitably licensed, given that you are not using the vehicle commercially? I always consider that if the worse happens, will my insurance pay out? If so, then I must be on the right side. If anything, you might find that it is the vehicle being towed who's insurance is invalidated? As I queried recently whether I could tow a FH70 behind the militant, and was told that it would be covered for third party claims, but not for damge to it unless I sought extra cover.
  3. out of interest, why does the front spring with the towing eye attached, swing out?
  4. see you there Steve, have you got somewhere for my caravan (no sarky comments please)
  5. yes, congratulations Hope the bride managed to get in and out ok, without catching her dress?
  6. first aid kit? pain killers for the morning after
  7. can't help thinking when I see them going through the obstacles in their modern tackle, how much more interesting it would be for them if they were in something like the militant, in fact the militant would be perfect if you had Kyle in the cab - you wouldn't be able to hear him
  8. Hope you get this sorted Rob, mine has a leaking gland as well, so perhaps you could do that that the same time you come to do my brakes ?
  9. watched this and suddenly had my first experience of feeling old, when I saw lasses my daughters age driving. I thought when I first tuned in that they were on a taster/ work experience from school! Totally agree that Kyle is a tw*t, hopefully he gets run over later in the series?
  10. my rear brakes could do with an overhaul, do fancy a little holiday in Yorkshire? Looking good though, btw, thanks for the offer of the puncture repair kit, just need a large enough puddle now to submerge the tube in too find the leak!
  11. Hi Richard, welcome to the forums, keep taking the tablets.
  12. good stuff, pictures would be nice, but the description gives a good idea what a pig of a time you had.
  13. can you post a picture of the rubber with some measurements etc? If it's the same as the militant, I'll go halves.
  14. Hi Rob, sorry to hear you're a clumsy pillock! I fell out of the cab last year, slipped on the top step, landed on the floor whilst still holding onto the top handrail, felt like I'd been on a medieval rack. I might have an air gauge if you're stuck, just need to have a rummage. Militant looking very nice, it'll look beter when you start to put the green on
  15. I've lost count of the times people ask me why I've taken the driven front axle off the militant (which is 6x4), as militant's were all 6x6 don't you know..
  16. politics aside, I'll be going, unless diesel's £10 a gallon by then!
  17. but how will you get it in the overhead locker on the plane?
  18. I can't manage to tax the militant online, had to use the exemption form at the Post Office, which as you say they don't even look at, if they had, they'd have noticed that I reused last year's.
  19. Ad says it drives well, but looking at the rust on the compressor pulley, how long has it been stood? 'Starts with a tow' - that could mean anything from having flat batteries to a cabbaged electrical system. Looks like someone has rung all the life out of this and is now looking to get a profit out of silly buggers like us who restore stuff. Good luck to anyone who takes this on, but I suspect it'll end up going for scrap. Anyway, something a little happier, the militant that came in from the cold..
